Parrikar-ji is very true! Under Modi-ji's brilliant leadership, India will quickly uncover ancient Vedic technologies such as teleportation, space travel, gravity manipulation, gene therapy, and fusion energy. India will become a superpower by 2020!

Union Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar today said that the ancient sages of the country were "probably great scientists.
New Delhi: Giving mythological lessons to defence scientists, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that the ancient sages of the country were "probably great scientists." He also asked the scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to learn from 'rishis', the art of being humble and overcoming jealousy and anger.

He gave the example of sage Dadhichi, who provided Lord Indra with an indestructible weapon known as 'vajra', according to mythology.

Mr Parrikar said, "They say that he made it out of his bone but I think he would have probably done some scientific research to develop a metal which provided that kind of superior technology. So you can classify him into a scientist. But the major difference that I find in those days and today is that rishis had control over ego, control over anger. These are very important for an educated person."

Earlier, the minister advocated the cause of humility, saying it should not be taken in a wrong sense. "I always believe that power enhances with restraint and education enhances with humility... For an educated person, to have humility is one of the most important virtues. I think the scientist community should choose to make it part of their overall behaviour and set up."

Mr Parrikar was speaking at the the 39th Directors' Conference of DRDO.

.
And I agree. Sages were scientist and thats why they jold such high positions in the kingdoms. They have worked towards betterment of the society.

. .
Every religion has it's own beliefs. One religion says it has vimanas, other says there used to be flying horses. Believing them is a personal choice and Mr. Parikkar also is entitled to his opinion.

.
Knowledge was regarded as one of the greatest assets in ancient India. Greatest honours were bestowed upon people who were considered the most learned and so it is not surprising that in such an environment a lot of great scientists exists.
OP should remember that what we consider trivial knowledge now was groundbreaking research back then.

.
Uhh to all the plebs getting up in arms about this.

Science is about the pursuit of knowledge free from bias or any other such preconceived notions.

The ancient sages WERE great scientists, that is not to say that they discovered perpetual motion or invented flying cars.

Every religion has it's own beliefs. One religion says it has vimanas, other says there used to be flying horses. Believing them is a personal choice and Mr. Parikkar also is entitled to his opinion.

What part of what Mr Parrikar said made you think of Vimanas.

You didn't know?
They invented science, 0 and yoga, in order.
The Greeks and Muslims then borrowed science and 0 and passed it off to the rest of Europe to start renaissance and stuff.
But they're still mad at Muslims for lack of interest in the third invention. :D

The pursuit of science was perfected in India.

Nobody can 'invent' science. It is a method of study.

baba ramdev and the honorable defence minister should first donate their bones for this exemplar research... lead by example, i say !!

I was actually referring to the Einstein who talked about vimanas... should have quoted him.

What he has said is true. Had they not been the scientist, We would not have Ayurveda, Vastu shastra and lots of other traditional knowledge as our legacy.

.
Scientists should embark on "research" to determine whether these knowledge were looted from the ancient Dravidians aka Tamils and repackaged as Aryan inventions ?

. .
It's not something special that ancient people were more innovative here, it was there in every corner of the world. Even the modern architects are wondering about the geometrical dimensions of the great pyramids of egypt.

vastu shastra is plain superstition.

"energies flowing in from the door in the south-west"
