An Indo-Pak wrestling Final

Btw India's best Badminton player Saina Nehwal is also a Haryana Jat

@ranjeet This is what I meant. Saina Nehwal might not have been the badminton player that she is now had her family not shifted to Hyderabad, which has a thriving Badminton set-up. Many of our best badminton players have moulded their art in Hyderabad.

True. It's all about infrastructure. It's not like Jats are super humans or something. Haryana just happens to be a richer state and Haryanvis have access to good infrastructure in nearby cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. We need more cities with good sports infrastructure.

Yes. Sports infrastructure in most towns is simply non-existent or downright pathetic. The day they get good infrastructure and coaching staff is the day we can dream of truly competing with the biggies in the Olympics. But I'm not hopeful of seeing this change in my lifetime.:(

Yes but her family took the trouble, not many family can do that. Govt must spot early talent and sponsor them.. I don't know about how things are at your place but I see many kids begging at red light stops doing acrobatics. A simple idea but it does have huge potential if tapped onto.

They're everywhere I guess. Breaks my heart to see small kids aged about 4-6 doing acrobatics in traffic junctions. Have this small ring through which they contort their bodies in interesting ways.

Plus, we also need to take greater pride in our homegrown sports. How is it that something as simple as darts has a world championship but Gilli Danda doesn't even have a zilla level competition, forget taluk or district or state level? Hypocrisy, thy synonym is Indian.:tsk:

I would love it if they introduce doctor doctor though that would be fun to watch and play. Nah I guess it's still the Colonial hangover we suffering from. What ever white masters do must be good. We do play kabbadi though we even organize our own world where we invite teams from UK Canada filled with NRIs to beat. There is also kho-kho. but ain't that big I would agree.

We need to diversify sports training at the grassroot level man. Each region has carved a niche for itself in a specific sport or two, which is another way of saying that each sport has been confined into a few specific regions. :frown: We're nowhere close to finding a Jat Table tennis player or a Maratha Wrestler.

Enlighten your self .

KD Jadhav won a bronze medal in 1950 Olympics.

And He was a Maratha Wrestler.

The odd aberration will always be there man. I was talking about the assembly line. There's Vikas Gowda from Karnataka who's done consistently well in Discus throwing as well. But a South Indian discus thrower is an aberration, not the norm.

Who decides what is norm and what is aberration ? You.

Winning a Olympic medal is an aberration...Yeah right .

In fact In India getting a mat to wrestle is an aberration and soil is the norm.

Are you an idiot or what? The majority of our wrestlers, boxers and track and field athletes come from the Haryana-Punjab-Delhi belt or Northeast. That's what I meant by the norm. The assembly line of such athletes who consistently represent India at all major events isn't in Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu, but rather in the Jat heartland. What about this do you want to dispute with me?

He was talking about how kids from other part of the country find it hard to join the sports academy as they are not easy for them to join. It would be next to impossible for a poor kid from Maharasthra to get proper training in boxing as best coaches are busy with the hub in Bhiwani, Haryana without proper sponsorship by the govt.

I agree, even in poorer states like UP and Rajasthan, the best athletes are Jatts for some reason. In the North East, the culture is different to the mainland and there is a lot of mountainous areas to run around and also less emphasis on education meaning there is more exposure to sport. Even in the India hockey team which was previously dominated by Punjabis, there are now 3 NE players.

whats with jats this and that man, our people are just trying to find a short cut to SARKARI NAUKARI
Utha patak to waise hi karte rehte hai to socha dhang ki jagah hi kar le. :p:

Edit: Totally agree on the education part. It's a similar case here, we hate education too. That's why we were demanding reservation.
