What's new

An apology to turks!

Tell me about it. My dad wanted to go to Poland:D Thank god THAT didn't happen. Silly idealists back then. Anyway, that's all in the past.

Actually, there were thousands of Iranians who went/fled to USSR, but they were letting Moscow know that they are going there by Tudeh Party. In such conditions, people had no troubles, and many of them, later studied in universities of USSR for free, married there, ... but there were some examples that they did not pass the security conditions (They were suspicious to be spies); hence they were sent to prisons, but after prison, again they could have stayed in USSR. Also, there were many people(like famous writer Bozorg Alavi) who went to East Germany(Berlin) since they had good universities.

Thanks, good info. But for me, thank god I wasn't born in a communist S hole. So glad Amsterdam was the final destination :D BTW I have Azeri family. My mothers 2 sisters both married Iranian Azeris. As a Turkish and Farsi speaker, I just love how it's a mix of the two languages.

Actually, don't mistake USSR with 3rd world socialists(like Syria, Iraq), like how one cannot compare USA to 3rd world anti-socialist countries(like most middle eastern countries). Soviet Union had the 2nd largest economy of the world, and highest ranking of literacy rates and access to houses with at least some medium standards, and was a scientifically advanced country. 3rd world countries are always a mess and superpowers are always the best option for a person to live in them. That's like a general law.
;) Southern Azeri accent, has some mixture with Farsi, since it's speaker are living next to Persians, and Northern Azeri accent has some mixture with Russian, for the similar reason. ;)

Right on about the accents. Different in writing too.

And yes about SU being different than Hungary, Poland etc, but hey, who would like to work for 'free' and drive a Lada:D Which is why I'm happy he came to NL. But yes, communism did have some good parts, but on the whole, I'll take cowboy capitalism any day. NL is a social democracy, perhaps the best kind of capitalism.

It is strange that Middle Eastern communists didn't immigrate to China, Russia, Cuba, or North Korea. Rather, they immigrated to the most capitalists countries on Earth. Of course, non of these countries allow immigration, except Russia may be. But, it is still very ironic that they didn't endure their lives where they were, and decided instead to spit on their communist past once and for all.
You are forgetting that people like my dad and IR-TR's dad were young 20 something university students with certain beliefs, not Karl Marx reincarnate! They weren't full on commie rebels ffs. They had certain beliefs (which I personally find idiotic), but for that they were thrown in jail, tortured and some even executed. The fact that they migrated out of the country to the US and Canada and Europe shows that their beliefs were never set in stone to begin with. I sometimes joke around with my dad and call him a "bourgeois" pig b/c he's a business owner in Canada, a capitalist country, and he just ignores me lol.
