Actually, there were thousands of Iranians who went/fled to USSR, but they were letting Moscow know that they are going there by Tudeh Party. In such conditions, people had no troubles, and many of them, later studied in universities of USSR for free, married there, ... but there were some examples that they did not pass the security conditions (They were suspicious to be spies); hence they were sent to prisons, but after prison, again they could have stayed in USSR. Also, there were many people(like famous writer Bozorg Alavi) who went to East Germany(Berlin) since they had good universities.
