If you read surveys on Afghan public opinion, most of them do not support the Taliban, including the Pashtuns, who in any case make up 50% or less of Afghanistan's population.

Irrelevant surveys and data. Simple thing is that Pakistan and India have been doing in Afghanistan, whatever was in their own respective interests and, obviously, detrimental to each other. Still, same policy would be pursued by both the countries and, of course, there are other players as well. See, what comes out of it, in the near future.
