Several things here.

I'm sorry but his father who manages him and his trainer i.e. Virgil Hunter should have stopped this fight from happening. I know it was probably Amir due to his headstrong ways, but this was the mother of all bad match-ups. It just wasn't possible for Amir to fight a guy who would outweigh by over a stone, and who is one of the hardest punchers in the game. You can't simply move up the lbs ladder and hope to be the same, it does't happen. I've been there (not boxing), moved up and it took time for my power to build again from what is was.

As for the fight. Yes he did move around and stick him, which did confuse Canelo but he knew deep down he would wilt in the later rounds . No one yet has mentioned how tired Amir looked in the fifth round. He was sucking air folks. When the sixth started, his legs were slow, the movement was gone and he was dropping his hands, which is the greatest cardinal error a trainer tells you never to indulge in, and that's when you first walk into the gym, not when you have been a pro for a decade. Amir did take some solid shots from Canelo, and his chin is ok, just not great. But again his body couldn't take the wear and tear and he succumbed as many had feared.

What now for him? I'm sorry to say this but he should seriously think of a few lesser fights and just finish up. The blow he took had a great deal of force behind it and he was out cold for a couple of minutes. Severe concussions like that finish off what punch resistance a boxer has. There are so many examples of this, one being Roy Jones. I don't want to see him slurring his words, just look at Riddick Bowe, James Toney, Tommy Hearns etc, the latter two I have met in person and I was shocked to see their deterioration. That is no way for once proud and powerful men to live.

As for Canelo, I don't blame him for not having fought the Golovkin. He simply has no answer to the fight that triple G will bring to him. Canelo relies on power and forward movement, something which will have him meet the steel willed and fisted Golovkin head-on, which will result in him following what happened to Khan. He can't outbox him, as Golovkin came from an excellent amateur pedigree, a silver medalist olympian, world champion, who shows true ring craft. What has astounded me is the level of punishment he can take. I've seen shots hit him, when he was unaware and he just walked through them. The man is a beast personified. But hey, it will still be good to see the two meet.

That was a nice read, i know zilch about boxing so i'd like your views on Vijander Singh

Vijander works hard. He has strength in his punches, but can be a bit wild, that's maybe a throwback from his amateur days where you don't have to be as careful due to a headguard (now gone under new rules). He will carry on and maybe get a shot at a lesser world title. You just have to remember his age, he has entered the sport at quite an age and is now racing against time. His weight division has some great guys that he could be facing.

By the way, I'm glad he dropped the Andrzej Soldra, which was his latest fight. He was spouting outright racism (which also effects fellow South Asians) i.e. Indians are weak and can't fight. I'm glad Singh put him in his place.

I dont think people really mean racist things, it just a way to inflame passion before the game... sort of sledging... I base this on my zero knowledge of game or personalities.. :)

hes a good boxer but he will not beat anyone in the top 20 rankings of his weight, he turned pro at 30 at this age most world class fighters are in world title fights against world level competition. he'll win a commonwealth title thats about it. there are so many versions of the world title i wouldn't be surprised if he picked one up just to create the buzz he's a world champion. In reality a world title is only earned by fighting the best fighters at the weight which he wont do.

when he moves up in class his punch power or lack of it will show in a fight, his defence is weak too, this polish guy whoever he was a bum level fighter landing right hands on several occasions, if this guy was young early 20s i'd give him the benifit of the doubt, but he's 30. he's only got 3 years left in the game.

His sense of distance is excellent and he gets very good leverage on his punches, though he stands a bit too upright at times, he needs to dip his legs a bit more to absorb incoming shots and at times he keeps his right hand away from jaw and does not bring his jab back back quickly enough, a higher level opponent will capitalise on this Max Schmelling style.

I am a die hard boxing fan, never heard of Vijander Singh
He was one of the top amateur middleweights in AIBA rankings.

Amir Khan has achieved more than 1.2 billion indians combined--when it comes to boxing.
That's what I said. Amir Khan has achieved more than any other boxer of Pakistani or the wider South Asian extraction or the region beyond. Only Naseem Hamed stands above him.

He was reported to have earned £9 million from that one fight. That's probably more than any other sportsman from South Asia.

And a Sino-Tibetan Indian (what 0.000000000000000000000000000000001%) female Olympic winner is touted in the same breath as Amir Khan. Give me a break.

Go tell Bollywood to make a movie Instead. There you can "Make India".

Not sure why people take it personally, may be I am not a sports fan, so dont know how it feels when somebody you like loses..
but come on, mexico might laugh at a billion plus Indians, and say hey we got so many elite boxers. Even pueto ricans, cuban and probably thais can have a go at us, and yes we are not really good at it.

Its weird that pakistan is not really known for boxing prowess(irrespective of claim to martial race), they latch onto one british(yes he did not migrate from pakistan, he was born in UK, used UK's facilities and coaching) midget boxer, who am sure is brilliant in his category and inspiration to people back home.
The only association of Mr Khan with pakistan is possibly genetics, and apparently it has put him in disadvantage. You might blame his 'Indian' gene though.

Nah, that dude pretty much meant it. Oh well, he was a bum and got shown for it.
