America's ridiculous stance on Kashmir

Make the disputed territories the international border. And walla!! the problem is solved between India, Pakistan and China.

All three countries have nukes.. so there's no way any country is gonna go to war with one another.

What would they all do without Kashmir? The Pakistani Army needs a cause to justify dominating Pakistan; the Indians need something for the Pakistanis to throw themselves at and weaken themselves; and the Chinese want Pakistan to remain a thorn in India's side. Resolution of the Kashmir issue would spoil everything!

Its pathetic how hyped up the US media got on a little known lobbyist in his last few years Dr. Fai who was busy doing a great service to humanity on personal risk. Something that America should have been on board with by default, considering it still upholds tenets of freedom and democracy.

America has never been able to justify its position on Kashmir and tries to bury the argument that there is a Kashmiri POV to this debate and always tries to portray it as some silly feud between India and Pakistan as if the people in question, the Kashmiris are non-entities.

It knows this that since when the Kashmir issue is brought up, the obvious thing a person can do is go like "Hey lets ask the Kashmiris what they want?" and America in its effed up stance doesn't want to do that, since its dependent upon keeping its lucrative Indian market.

Isn't it odd that a

Libyan freedom is good, Syrian is good, but Kashmiri is not?

Anyway rightfully the PEOPLE of Kashmir are also now directly booing American for viciously going after this old man who was doing the people of Kashmir a huge favor at personal risk.

The Kashmir dispute needs to be solved according to just and moral principles.
There is no need for the Pakistan army to dominate Pakistan.
India does not need Pakistan to weaken itself.
The territorial disputes between China and India needs to solved according to just and moral principles.

My friend, you have forgotten the Americans! If India and Pakistan patched up, who would America sell arms to? Who would they give loans - which are not only interest bearing but conditional?

The Republic of South Asia, perhaps?

Hey why don't any Pakistani speaking against false Indian propaganda that demographies had been changed in Azad Kashmir???? No one is to settle in AJK according to Pak law but Kashmiris are allowed to settle anywhere in Pakistan.

The Republic of South Asia, perhaps?

Are you joking? Partition happened for good. No Indian in the rigth mind desires integration. 'The Republic of South Asia' would be a hell to live. We are only interested in peace so that India can concentrate on economic development.

It will not be as interesting as doing your own research -- why settle for being spoon fed?

Most likely you must have come across indian research papers and articles calling US as being obsessed with Kashmir.

When you accuse a party you ought to bring in substance to prove your claim and would be welcomed.
Regardless if US took the stand so did russians in favor of hindustan.

Thats what everybody claims, the recent Indian military ex across Pakistani border and the long rang Artillary and Advanced Fighter Aircraft deployment across Pakistani border plus Genral Depak Kapur(Rt) comments negate your claim.Owing to the Military Up-gradation There may come a time when the balance of military power might shift greatly towards india and Indian leaders might find it a workable option to venture a military confrontation with Pakistan

Nuclear deterrent is called DETERRENT for a reason. And there is nothing in advanced fighter deployment, LRA and Gen Deepak Kapur's statements that say otherwise. India has too much to lose and too little to gain out of a war with Pakistan.

But I do not accuse any party - I am merely saying that Pakistanis need to understand their own Kashmir position and the role of the US in crafting such a position -- and that if these interested persons did their own research, they may stand to gain a deeper understanding -- sometimes Pakistani posters imagine the world to be ahistorical, much as they view their religion as being ahistorical.

true true......you said the exact ground reality......

Some other interesting facts you forgot to point out in the chatham house polls:

According to the poll results, in the Kashmir Valley - the mainly Muslim area, the support for independence is between 74 percent and 95 percent.

Such a big divergence cannot be be considered 'reliable' when interpreting poll results, as there is too much 'fluctuation' & variability.

In the predominantly Hindu Jammu division to the south, support is under one percent.

Jammu & Ladakh, which like Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan do not have separatist tendencies, should not have been included in the poll results, just like Gilgit-Baltistan has not been included. The results of Jammu & Ladakh are hence irrelevant, & they bring the average down for India. The people of Gilgit-Baltistan shunned the separatists in AJK & J&K, & had elections in 2009, & passed the internal autonomy bill which gives them all the powers of a province. This bill was passed by the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, made up by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

http://www.hrcp-web.org/pdf/Gilgit-Baltistan Report.pdf

In Pakistan's AJK, 44% favored independence. But India's Jammu & Ladakh results should not have been included, just as Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan were not considered. So this is a flawed study. And Azad Kashmir is already technically not a part of Pakistan, but an independent nation.

Some other interesting facts from this study:

a) 80 percent of Kashmiris on both sides of the LoC say that the dispute is important to them personally.

b) Concern over human rights abuses stands at 43 percent on the Indian side and 19 percent on the Pakistani side.

c) Concern over unemployment is strong across the territory - 66 percent on the Pakistani side and 87 percent on the Indian side.

d) Few are optimistic over peace talks between India & Pakistan - only 27 percent on the Pakistani side and 57 percent on the Indian side. (which goes to show that Kashmiris in AJK have greater distrust for India than the Kashmiris from J&K have for Pakistan.

Read my post again, I clearly stated the opinion in the valley. And Jammu also consists of 30-40% Muslims who are pro-India. Similarly in shia dominated Kargil, almost all again prefer to be with India. But regardless of joining India, joining India under A370 or being independent, there is almost complete consensus that no one, not even the valley Muslims want to join Pakistan. Joining Pakistan is unacceptable to major majority of the people including the valley Muslims.

When you talk about Jammu and Kashmir, you have to talk about Gilgit Baltistan, Ladakh Jammu, Chinese occupied Ladakh all these are parts of the historical state of J&K. This is what the people in the valley who want independance are demanding.

They know that valley alone by itself WILL NOT be viable and be just another buntustan. They want the entire J&K state to be independent. This is what Ghulam Nabi Fai wanted too. Gilgit Baltistan was also part of his vision for the independent J&K.

When you ask the same valley separatists if they want only the valley to be independent, then the percentage for this goes down drastically.

The fact remains that the Musharraf-Singh formula is the best possible outcome for this solution. Delaying this is to the detriment of Pakistan and possibly Kashmiri people, although this might change with time. But status quo is not to the detriment of India.

Its Pakistani people who have to make the decision. Do they want their people and Kashmiris to suffer or do they actually care for their own country to have a resolution of the issue like Musharraf did.
