Last I checked, an average Pakistani found it difficult to even afford proper medicines for his family let alone pursuing MBA (or pretend to) in Uncle Sam's land.

and i was afforded in life (by grace of God) many things which the common man do not enjoy...but i am very much an average Pakistani.....daddy aint paying for my gas, uncle aint paying my tuition! In my case im on my own and im damned proud of it. But why do i even need to explain that to you anyways



as for the topic itself -- well i'd rather be hated for who we are, than loved at the expense of our national security

Are you a naturalized citizen? If so, I agree with the notion that you may know more about U.S. history than *some* people born here.

Are there holes in education? Sure. But we still graduate millions of very talented intellectuals, scientists, engineers.

This notion of "stupid americans" all started, and was popularized by, shows like Jay Leno's "Man on the street" interviews. Those shows are designed to find and question really stupid people. For example

Leno: "Point to Canada on this map"
Idiot: <points to Europe>
Audience: LOOOLOOOLOOLOLOLOL, Wow is she stupid!

What they don't show are the 50 people who correctly pointed to Canada, because that's not funny.

Do you think if I walked up to this person, and asked her "Where is Canada on this map?" she'd know? Maybe she would. I'd guess not.

Every country has an array of stupidity, from dirt-dumb to genius. What is more important is the overall level of intelligence, and more importantly, WHAT they know. For example, I couldn't name the capital city of every U.S. State, but some schools force the memorization of useless lists and info.

One of the roots of racism and xenophobia is stereotyping. When I was a kid, "Polack" (Polish) jokes were all the rage. Like

Q: "How can you tell a submarine is polish?"
A: "It's equipped with screen doors!"

Yuck yuck. We know it's a joke, but when I was a kid, we all thought Poles must be stupid or something. Of course they are not. And Mexicans aren't lazy, and Blacks don't all love watermelon and fried chicken.

I think we, as a species, can rise above it. It'd be great if we could, and we're making progress.

it's not about cred, this is only the net --at the end of the day

you'd understand my fury if some nut-case politician in the US is calling for the division of my country -- a country that as it is has suffered so much in the past 3-4 years due not just to internal blunders and poor governance, but also due to a costly war next door which has had major spill-over effects on our side

if a very patient person like me would be beginning to become very impatient with the west's approach to Pakistan, you can imagine what the ''common man'' people are feeling.



again though, i could care less about these polls.....they are just numbers. They go up, they go down. Americans have a poor image of Pakistan at the moment, and vice versa.


i do hope this is just a phase; our relationship with the US is an old one with a lot of history (good and bad) and a lot of baggage (mostly bad, but some good).


The US government has the luxury of having mainstream media toe its official lines.....we lack that luxury. It's led to vicious propaganda against Pakistan; half-truths and sensationalism has now been called as ''news''

but on a serious note, my ''outburst'' took place because of the irresponsible, insensitive, horribly timed and purely ignorant actions of some numb-nuts in DC who want to divide and conquer Pakistan and the region......if Boris Ivanov over there in Moscow made noises about liberating Texas, wouldnt you react angrily? Even if it isnt Russian policy, it would still anger you that there are people in government/civil servant positions opening their beaks about meddling in others' internal affairs

Looks like the American people do not have high regards for Afghans/government & its people, although they were the ones that were supporting the troops to "liberate Afghanistan & its people" from the Taliban. Something is clearly not right here, as there is a clear mismatch of the government policies to the public sentiments.
