My first commentary above was only intended to clarify the
historical path followed by the Republic of China (R.O.C.) from 1945 onward, that is the real world were we all live in today, though mostly unknown to 99% of the commoners.
In this second commentary, we will try to determine the fate of China following this time a hypothetical
ahistorical victory of the Kuomintang (K.M.T.) in the civil war against the Comintern's Red Army lead by the Communist Party of China (C.P.C.).
Could the Original Poster (O.P.)
@tower9 be somehow right?
He claims that 'the greatest tragedies in modern history is the KMT losing the Chinese civil war to the CCP'.

Showa: The Fate Of Homo SS V1.0a, Galactic Penguin has demonstrated that instead of living today in the Pax Americana, the second most likely other probability is for us to live under a Japanese-lead world order, called the Pax Nipponica.
The Empire of Japan had more than 93.75% chance (15/16) of achieving the first ever world conquest back in 1936.
In short, to achieve the first ever world conquest, the probability were of 1/4 chance by remaining peaceful, 1/4 by striking North i.e. the Soviet Union, 1/4 by striking South i.e. the Allies. The worse possible path was to pick a fight with the Chinese indomitable colossus, that ultimately brought the Empire of Japan to its knees in September 1945 (1/16 probability)!
Probability breakup by strategic doctrines:
1. Neutrality (1/4 probability)
2. North (1/4 probability)
3. South (1/4 probability)
4. West (1/4 probability)
4.1. White Peace, Unilateral Withdrawal (1/16 probability)
4.2. Xi'an incident (1/16 probability)
4.3. Wang Jingwei (1/16 probability)
4.4. Unconditional surrender (1/16 probability)
This painful truth has caused such sleepless nights and uneasiness that the Emperor Showa has confessed in his anguishing final years:
"There is no point in living a longer life by reducing my workload. It would only increase my chances of seeing or hearing things that are agonizing. 7th April 1987"

As for the Republic of China, this means that without the Japanese interference in the Chinese internal affairs, the 12th December 1936 Xi'an incident and the following formation of the Second Chinese United Front would never have existed.
Instead, the KMT would have naturally proceeded with its finishing move against the Comintern's Red Army, directed by their German advisers (Hans von Seeckt et al.) doctrine of Encirclement Campaigns, and following the principle of tactical defense, strategic offense of the German blockhouse strategy.
Therefore, Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek would have launched the annihilating blow against their last stronghold of Yan'an, just recently established by the remnants of the Long March veterans, following their year long retreat (October 1934 – October 1935) from the Eastern soviet bases.
And according to my computer simulations, the defeat of the Comintern is inevitable, only varying from a few months to a couple of years, depending on the DLC and updates version of the computer game 'Heart of Iron 4' used.
But does an unified China means that 'if the KMT had won, today China would be a democratic, wealthy and civilized nation with a high standard of living, protection for human rights, a well mannered and polite society like that in Japan and Taiwan', as claimed by the OP?
Nothing farther from the truth. Indeed, the technological trees of all major Great powers don't differ.
Upon the Japanese victory over all the other ethnic European powers, Axis included, after 1947s, with the extensive use of mind-control weapons, China's own fate would have been sealed.
China's research in high energy physics, was lagging by decades compared to the Japanese. But it would have nonetheless reached the discovery of V particle threshold (first theorized as the two-meson theory by Sakata at Riken in 1942) by the 1950s, under Chinese physicist pioneers such as Wang Ganchang (王淦昌).
The mind-control era would therefore have been unlocked in China too.
Other technological bottlenecks with critical threat for the survival of the Pax Nipponica include the space age era, the genetic era, the transistor/semi-conductor/microprocessor/computer/ Artificial Intelligence era, and furthermore the exo-diplomacy era.
The only way out is for the Japanese rulers, masquerading behind a puppet Shogun - and equivalent to the current U.S. military junta-, to simply cannibalize those capable to challenge one day its supremacy, that is all other scientific powerhouses and technologically advanced nations including the Greater China (Qing Dynasty core territoties), Greater Rattanakosin Empire (core territories: Burma, Laos, Khmer, Cochinchina, Malaya, etc), Greater Korean Empire, and Greater Mongol Empire (all core territories of the Genghis Khan's Empire, all the South Asia, all the Middle East plus all of Europe).
Only Africa, the Amerindias and the Pacific Ocean's indigenous people would have been spared, being too backward, thus leaving centuries of safety margin to the Japanese rulers.
Conclusion China would be living in a Pax Sinae-Nipponica era, sharing an equal fate with the Japanese citizens, but only under the direct dystopian mind-control dictatorship of its hidden secret rulers.
No place for such 'democratic', 'well mannered and polite society', 'cosmopolitan society' or 'human rights' nonsense in this ahistorical scenario path either.
