(CNN)A man arrested on suspicion of spying for the United Arab Emirates has allegedly died by suicide while imprisoned in Turkey, the country's state prosecutor and its state-run news agency Anadolu said Monday.

But the man's brother claims that he was killed, and says that his image is being "defamed."
Turkey's chief prosecutor identified the dead man as Zaki Hassan, who had been detained on charges of "obtaining confidential state information for political and military espionage." He and another man were arrested on April 4 and 5, according to Hassan's family members.
Turkish officials had been investigating whether the pair, suspected of spying for the UAE, were connected to the October 2018 murder of Jamal Khashoggi at Saudi Arabia's Istanbul consulate, according to Anadolu.
The prosecutor said that a prison guard found Hassan at 10:22am in his one-man cell in Istanbul's Silivri prison, during food distribution on Sunday.
The Prosecutor's office says they have opened an investigation.
The UAE did not respond to CNN's request for comment.
According to his family, Hassan was a Palestinian father of nine and a retired major intelligence general. He worked for the Palestinian Authority in Gaza prior to the Hamas takeover there in 2007.

Hassan had been given political asylum in Bulgaria and received a Turkish residency permit on his Palestinian passport in March, his brother, said.
The brother, Zakaria Hassan, told CNN: "Zaki was killed and did not commit suicide.
"My brother is a martyr and enough is enough to defame his image. Not only did they kill him but now they are defaming the image of my brother," he said.
"He was a father, had a Phd in political science, and was a retired intelligence general. Why would he kill himself?" Hassan told CNN on Monday.
The second suspect in the arrests was identified as Samer Shaaban, according to two Gaza families.

His wife Sameeh Shaaban told CNN that he left Gaza in early 2008 and was later named as a suspect by Hamas for an alleged plot to assassinate Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh -- something which she and the family denies.
"I want my husband to be released as soon as possible, as there is no evidence for his conviction. Turkish authorities and the media should be held to account for these false accusations," Shaaban said.

@Khafee Turks won't stand for subversive behavior in their borders. They had to the guts to jail this guy once they figured out he was scheming for the emirati city states. Pakistan should definitely follow suit and start jailing subversive stooges working for the city states.

Shut down all cameras inside the Jail!
Three men's enter the room of prisoner, Two men's strangulate the prisoner with the rope, while third man guards and watches on. When the Prisoner is dead, bed sheet is wrapped around his neck and is hanged from the ceiling or Iron Bars.
Three men's quit the prisoners room, and all camera's are turned on!

A Few moments later, the dead body of prisoner is spotted and news headlines appear that "Alleged UAE spy kills himself in Istanbul prison, Turkish state media says"!!!

If you have a remotely neutral or credible source detailing such then by all means share away. For all I care this is another display of subversive behaviour on the part of Emiratis.

At this rate I anticipate the Saudis to realize their nature as well. All in due time I suppose since uae and ksa have diverging goals for yemen and other conflict zones.

Every country has their noses poking in somebody's else ar$e .... UAE maybe small in terms of area and population but not in resources and they has all the rights to protect their interests.

What we can do is to make our people aware what are our interests.

Kindly check this thread and let the Pakistani members understand that we are not the party between any of two since both Gulf Countries and Turkey are our brotherly countries.
Let them handle their own internal and external affairs with each other and if the both countries like we should mediate to ease the tension between the two Muslim countries.
@Khafee

The UAE is just a family business, they are not real countries in any sense. What business do they have meddling in actual countries like Turkey or Sudan etc

Turkey need to declare a cold war against the uae.

They cant ignore this any longer. UAE is a bigger threat to Turkey than its own neighbours.

Turkey has to play its cards and start doing sonething against the uae.

Actual threat is not UAE, she is under control of israel, and zionist pentagon. We have to start to form an alternative world order against to zionistic american imperialism. We can not handle this threat by ourself. But we can create economic and military unions with other independent countries such as Iran, Russia, China, Pakistan.. and more.. Maybe before of it we need a regional war to defeat USA from ME.

There is a turkish saying regarding friends

So it does not matter now ... As if a turk or an arab has the right for a favor of a Pakistani if they get some for free then they should be happy and thankful
