India. An ancient land. An ancient people. A modern nation.
But what has modrnity brought us?
Drudgery.
The simple fact is that as a people and a culture we have become two faced prudes. This from the civilization that gave the world the Kamasutra.
Today there is kaam, but very little kama. India just is not getting it on like it used to. A lot of the blame has traditionally been laid on the doorstep of first Islam and then Christianity and their prudery.
But is there more to it? Have we as Hindus also changed? Do we look at sex differently? Have we become moral evangelists?
When did we start prizing virginity? When did pre marital sex start being taboo? When did adultery become frowned upon? When did prostitution and concubines become as filthy and socially low as they have today?
Simply put. We are aping the West in the art of making love today. P.orn is what teaches us. We have lost the thread of continuity to our glorious sexual heritage. It is not one of the things of Hinduism that we could save from the ravages of foreign faiths on our land.
I'll prove it to you. Think of the weirdest position (or circumstance) you have ever made love in. Chances are 9 out of 10 you have seen it in a p.orn movie.
How many positions do most average Indians know or practice? Either regularly or once in a while? Now compare that to the number in the Kamasutra. Why? Have our bodies become less agile or flexible over the centuries? Or have our minds?
I would like to have a mature discussion about this and not resort to cheap vulgarity here so that mods are not forced to shut the thread down.
