India. An ancient land. An ancient people. A modern nation.

But what has modrnity brought us?

Drudgery.

The simple fact is that as a people and a culture we have become two faced prudes. This from the civilization that gave the world the Kamasutra.

Today there is kaam, but very little kama. India just is not getting it on like it used to. A lot of the blame has traditionally been laid on the doorstep of first Islam and then Christianity and their prudery.

But is there more to it? Have we as Hindus also changed? Do we look at sex differently? Have we become moral evangelists?

When did we start prizing virginity? When did pre marital sex start being taboo? When did adultery become frowned upon? When did prostitution and concubines become as filthy and socially low as they have today?

Simply put. We are aping the West in the art of making love today. P.orn is what teaches us. We have lost the thread of continuity to our glorious sexual heritage. It is not one of the things of Hinduism that we could save from the ravages of foreign faiths on our land.

I'll prove it to you. Think of the weirdest position (or circumstance) you have ever made love in. Chances are 9 out of 10 you have seen it in a p.orn movie.

How many positions do most average Indians know or practice? Either regularly or once in a while? Now compare that to the number in the Kamasutra. Why? Have our bodies become less agile or flexible over the centuries? Or have our minds?

I would like to have a mature discussion about this and not resort to cheap vulgarity here so that mods are not forced to shut the thread down.

I think all those acrobatic postures are stunts which only pornstars can perform. Children ran around freely all those centuries ago and grew up into agile and lissome youths. Today children grow up spend half their time in school sitting on their asses on the classroom benches, then tuition benches, then on the sofa in front of TV. The remaining time they have to sleep. So the only place one is going to see those stunts are in movies or in circuses.

Do you know why its called the missionary position?

No imagination.

How have we become so puritanical? Why are Hindu girls being protected and cloistered and asked to keep their virtue till marriage as if they were Catholic or Muslim girls?

Why does our right wing attack couples? Why do our couples not have places where they can have some privacy in safety?

Most places rape is about power and not sex. Except India. Here rape is about sex. Cause young men are getting so little of it, and need a governement license before they can get laid for the first time.

This virtue thing being extended to men as well. As if there is some virginal contract of equality.

Who do you admire ?

Raavana, a powerful king who was incredible in battle and almost never lost a battle. A wonderful economist who made his kingdom prosperous and admired. A devout Hindu who was a faithful devotee of Shiva, A virile man who had Many Wives and a Larger harem and many children. A being who made friends with the rich and powerful and enemies of even the gods.

or.

Ramchandra, a foolish prince who abandoned his kingdom just because his dying father asked him too. Even when he could have refused and seized power. Who married only once and dragged that wife into the jungle just to be hounded and kidnapped. A wonderful archer and a powerful man who never used his strength to provide material comfort to his wife. A man who made friends with monkeys ad bears and tribals of the forest ?

The answer to this will give you the answer to your first question.

It does not matter what the Christians call it. Hindu girls were virgins before marriage even before the arrival of Islam or Christianity. They had freedom to choose their partners in marriage in swayamvar, but they were to remain chaste until then. That is why even in Mahabharata Kunti gives away Karna because of having him before her marriage.

The only place it varied was in the left hand path of Hinduism where some kingdoms experimented with licentiousness and indulged in Tantra.

Rape is about sex. It is always about sex regardless of how West is trying to spin it. People in the West do not necessarily have abundance of sex. It is always the alpha male there who attracts all the females and the beta guys have to do with rejects or not at all.

If sex was so freely available in the West, then prostitution would have been such a big business there.

Now coming to your questions, before the discovery of birth control pills, sex usually resulted in pregnancy. What was the guarantee the man would marry the girl he has made the baby with? Why would any guy be willing to marry a woman who has a couple of kids from different men? So the women were at a disadvantage and without a man by her side as her protector, poverty and misery was her fate.

Why would any society propagate and accept that?

Now even with the discovery of OCP, unwanted pregnancies still are a feature. Plus there are emotional burdens and scars of failed romance which nags a person throughout their lifetime. Not a baggage anyone wants in their married lives.

Traditionally, Indian men had plenty of sex because they married early in life and they had a partner with them throughout their sexual life at hand. Now the frustration is because men and women are more calculative and look at material comforts and being established before they take the step of marriage. So not the fault of the society, it is individual choices people make.

Doppelganger is 6 feet tall.

Has hairy armpits, chest, and legs.

And shaves about twice a week.

I guess that could pass for some females, but I'm a male. Studying to be a doc, not yet one.

You sound like a typical sexy Scorpio. Don't mind my saying so.
