I dont that is intentional, yes. They shouldnt come to conclusion too soon but given some look real East Asian and many of them holding fake Chinese passport. It can easily led to believe of them as Chinese national. I will not hold UK fault for this.

LOL.. 2000? 19 years ago incident. Sorry, China is now in 2019. When I went for overseas tour in 2000, any tourist area which we East Asian looking people and local will try speaking in Japanese to us thinking we are loaded Japanese with cash to spend. Now in 2019, you go overseas tour as East Asian looking and those local will try speak Mandarin with you , thinking you are Chinese loaded with money, ready to spend. See the big different.

I went to Phuket Thailand, the restaurant touter dont even bother to speak to Caucasian, cos they know most of them are broke. They look for Chinese tourist and ask them to come into their restaurant for meal in fluent Mandarin.
