Al-Qaeda gave millions to ISI to bribe politicians, claims former FIA chief
Fri, Aug 28 09:35 PM

Lahore, Aug.28 (ANI): In a startling revelation, a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director Malik Mumtaz has disclosed that Al-Qaeda had given millions of rupees to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to destabilise the Benazir Bhutto's government in 1988.

Mumtaz claimed that ISI had hatched a massive conspiracy involving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former ISI chief General (retired) Asad Durrani, Brigadier (retired) Imtiaz and Major (retired) Amir to overthrow the Bhutto government.

He said Osama bin Laden was behind the conspiracy and had paid millions of dollars to the ISI, The Daily Times reports.

In an interview with a private television, Mumtaz said one of his close friends had told him that the ISI was in the look out for Pakistan People's Party (PPP) legislators who would change side and join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

When asked whether he was too a part of the conspiracy, Mumtaz said he instead informed the PPP leadership about the plot.

Meanwhile, the PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal has rejected the allegations, saying the party never received any money from the intelligence agency.

Iqbal said that such claims were a part of maligning the PML-N leadership.

Former Director General of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Brigadier (retired) Imtiaz also rejected the allegations.

He said the charges were completely false and it was a handiwork of some 'mysterious elements' within the PPP who were trying to destabilize the country. (ANI)

Pak politicians got money from ISIFri, Aug 28 04:15 PM

A retired Chief Justice of Pakistan Saeeduzaman Siddiqui has alleged that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had given millions of rupees to different politicians in 1990 to form a political alliance to fight against Benazir's Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). In an interview to a TV channel, Siddiqui said that the money was given to convince politicians to join the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad, the right wing politicial alliance that fought election against the PPP and won.

Bhutto had alleged that the elections had been rigged. The allegations by the former CJ were substantiated by retired ISI chief, Asad Durrani, who confirmed that the payments had been made and by at least one politician who received the payments.

Nawaz Sharif has so far not commented on the issue but a former army chief, Retired General Mirza Aslam Beg, who was in charge at the time, said that the move has come "to discredit Nawaz Sharif.".

Haven't you heard the story? All countries have intelligence agencies, but ISI is the only agency which has its own country!!
LOL.
Jokes aside, most intelligence agencies, due to their covert nature of operations are exempt from public scrutiny. However they are answerable to civilian govt authorities, ie controlled by civilian masters.
Which civilian govt figure does the ISI answer to? Military authorities have a certain point of view, but civilian authorities are more pragmatic in their approach. Isn't that the major reason as to the root cause of some of the problems Pakistan is facing today?

a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director Malik Mumtaz has disclosed

So now former FIA director who failed in his job, is maligning in politics.. Is he thinking about launching any new party or supporting someone? (Just for your information FIA is most corrupt organization in pakistan, after political leaders)

Why would Al-Qaida will do that? BB was supporting Taliban, Nawaz was supporting taliban (& i believe he had many good relationships with ISI) back in 90s, so why would Al-Qaida will try overthrough the government.

Al-Qaida is a BUZZ word, and everyone is using it.. Politicians for their politics, Countries to justify their brutal actions i.e. Israel, India and un fame people like Malik mumtaz to get some fame..

But to a logical person it don't make sense, Some politician gave money, make sense, army give order also make, some thing from inside this country also make sense.. BUT Al-Qaida... I think Malik Mumtaz has gone nutcase..

Benazir wanted retaliatory PAF strikes on Indian nuclear sites in 1990: ex-Pak COAS
Mon, Aug 31 11:35 AM

Lahore, Aug.31 (ANI): Slain Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had asked the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to be ready for attacking India's nuclear facilities, when reports surfaced in 1990 that US, Israel and India were planning to strike Pakistan's nuclear establishments.

In an interview with a private television channel, former Chief of Army Staff Mirza Aslam Beg revealed that Bhutto had directed the PAF to prepare itself for attacking India.

Beg said Bhutto remained 'rock solid' amid reports that US, Israel and India were planning to attack Pakistan's nuclear sites.

"Benazir remained "rock solid" in 1990 amid reports of conspiracy against Pakistan," The Daily Times quoted Beg, as saying.

Beg also disclosed that the Saudis had given loads of money to Mahmood Haroon to ask politicians to join the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI), which was formed to destabilize Bhutto's government and ensure that she never returns to power.

Earlier, former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director Malik Mumtaz had disclosed that Al-Qaeda gave millions of rupees to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to destabilise the Benazir Bhutto's government in 1988.

Mumtaz claimed that ISI had hatched a massive conspiracy involving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former ISI chief General (retired) Asad Durrani, Brigadier (retired) Imtiaz and Major (retired) Amir to overthrow the Bhutto government.

He said Osama bin Laden was behind the conspiracy and had paid millions of dollars to the ISI.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Pervaiz Rashid has rejected Beg's allegations that ISI had distributed money among several politicians to destabilize the Bhutto government.

"Beg has given a very fake statement on the distribution of money by the ISI among politicians," Rashid said. (ANI)
