Awami League trying to legalize Grameen looting using illegal JS
--------------------
JS may pass Grameen Bank Bill today
Board of directors to be dissolved automatically

Staff Correspondent

The Grameen Bank Bill, which sought enactment of a law repealing the Grameen Bank Ordinance 1983 to bring the microcredit institution under the strong watch of the central bank, is likely to be passed in parliament today despite protests from the bank’s elected directors and its employees.

The bill may be passed by parliament today when its session resumes, said finance ministry officials. The enactment of the much–talked-about law will automatically dissolve the bank’s incumbent board of directors, they said. They, however, said that election to the new board of directors will be delayed as a new set of rules for the elections was yet to be framed. The draft rules prepared by banking and financial institutions division has been pending with the law ministry for vetting for about a month, a finance ministry official said.

According to the bill, presence of only three directors would make the quorum for a meeting of the board of directors during the period of elections to the board. Tahsina Khatun, one of the nine elected directors of the Grameen Bank, alleged that the new clause would help the government to take any decision bypassing the directors elected for three-year tenure.

What I don't understand is, how come US is on AL's side after what they did to them and Yunus?

.
Dr. Yunus is the best bet for a third front in BD. Hasina is successfully killing this dream of Bangladeshis.
Both the Begums are too big for any good to the country.

A technocrat running the country would be fantastic...in my opinion (if he can manage an equally good intelligentsia for the cabinet). But this seems too good to be true in the near future.

However if there is any similarity at the foundation level of Grameen...akin to the Indian ones....boy o boy..fracturing it is the right way forward.

This is what should (which posted before) answer your question

Fact of the matter is without indian backing Awami League would not have dared to attack Dr. Yunus and Grameen bank. India, for its part does not want any Bangladeshi have direct access to world power corridors in Washington and in Europe. Indians wanted Banagladesh foreign relation to be conducted under their control instead of independently and they have largely been successful on their agenda convincing US. That is why US other than providing lip service did not take CONCRETE ACTION to subdue Indo-Awami attack on Dr. Yunus. Since, 1/11 interim regime, US policy aganda on Bangladesh had been hijacked by India; rather than having independent Bangladesh policy and action, US taking policy decision through India. WikilLeaks cables and recent US ambassador visit to Delhi for consultation on Bangladesh matter with Indian officials, makes it plenty clear how US stacked Bangladesh (attack on Yunus/Greameen bank) on relational order.

From recent vocal reaction of Dr. Yunus one thing became clear that he realizes lack of US action and reason. That is why he opted to stand up on his own with grassroot support and with real owners of Grameen bank.
