Airtel has unfair advantage, say Dhaka operators

ye sab kya chal raha hai ??

Get back to the topic :lol:

Guys this is Bangladesh section how can you talk like this here ?

where is free transit, poverty etc
We are all RAW agents who hijacked the thread to prevent soft hearted innocent bangladeshis from realizing that airtel is the worst telecom company exploiting them to pursue their evil agenda :smokin:

. .
If Airtel have the worst service, then why do Bangladeshis go for Airtel? If they don't use Airtel numbers, the company will automatically go bust.

Contrary to your imagination, Bangladeshis are not flocking to airtel windows, at least not yet. Many other companies are already working in this market. The issue here is the extraordinary concession airtel is receiving from the govt of BD. However, airtel certainly deserves concessions in order to make a foothold, because it is a new entrant in BD market.

While the older companies already have good market shares, airtel will have to come from behind. Old companies will be paying hundreds of millions of dollars as renewal fees, but they will pay it from their earnings they have already made. But, airtel will have to spend millions from its own coffer. It has already paid a $50 million entry fee to the govt. It is a big investment.

Airtel will be spending millions of dollars for advertisements of its products, and whatever may be the initial reaction of the population airtel products will catch their minds if the products are right, although it will take a few years to reach that stage. But, any behind the scene arrangement with BD telecommunications deptt. will backfire. The news will come to the fore and will work against the long-term interest of this company.

What are the extraordinary concessions given to Airtel by the BD govt.?

The OP is the issue of License fee, which is actually a non-issue. License fee charged to airtel was in correlation to the charges applicable in 2005. It is only because of differential in timelines that it appears that Airtel has been charged less than other companies.

Guess you can read right?

Right from Airtel's 70 percent stake in Warid Telecom for $100,000 to allowing Airtel to exchange spectrum band access free of charge, "the government and the commission have displayed a bias towards Airtel in their treatment of the telecom industry".

When GP (most popular) has to pay $755 million while Airtel pays nothing means
unfair advantage. Anyways stuffs like this would
only make their customers say bye bye. Didn hear anyone use
airtel except one of my relative, who was an unfortunate victim
while warids transformation to airtel.

Read the original news, you will get a glimpse of what the other players are calling concessions to airtel. It seems to me, the old players are not happy that they will have to pay huge amount of money for renewal, but airtel will be paying only $50 million, although, I think, it is fair because airtel is paying only the entry fee as a new entrant, and the old ones will be paying their renewal fees.

It is funny how India is intertwined with politics and sentiments of the people in BD. And it is being exploited to the fullest. I am sure you have thousands of other issues to deal with before complaining about Airtel and there by finding a new way to feel intimidated by India.

Well they only took over in January didn't they? But even then what do you know, looks like Bangladeshis are flocking to Airtel windows. Airtel posted highest percentage increase in subscriber numbers in the period of Jan-2011- Feb 2011. Thats just one month:cheers:

That was also the case with Warid and Teletalk, I remember people queued up for teletalk connections for 3 consecutive days but now look where they are. When there's a newcomer some people will try it out. Anyways I'm not using airtel nor did I hear anyone use it and thats not because I'm in PDF. There network isn't good so I doubt if they'll sustain.

Has AIRTEL set up a new network or is it working on that of a local bought out operator ?

On the subject of network & connectivity, if the subscribers decide not to make / receive calls for one hour a day it would bring the operators to their knees.

I'm sure you know that establishing a network takes lots of investment and time. Give them a couple of years before commenting on their connectivity issues.

Well Eastwatch said no one is flocking airtel's window so I had to show him the figures. Lets talk about Airtel number of airtel subscribers one year down the line eh. It will be no less than double of what it is as of now. Just my prediction.

Beautiful advertisement.

This is only the starting of a venture in BD by airtel. Usually a company does many promotional activites such as discount rates, a small gift, or a 3-month free use if a subscriber changes its set to airtel. Airtel may be using all these activities and many others.

The results of all these promotional activities are known when things settle down after a few months. So, let us see what happens at the end of this year. It is a little premature to say people are flocking to airtel as if this is the first time for BD people to use a mobile phone. Note that about 50% of total population, that includes labours and Rickshawalas, own these sets.
