Air China magazine warns London visitors to avoid ethnic minority areas

This is not a racial issue, it is a question of urban management.

I think the magazine should have been more sensitive and respectful rather quoting a specific ethnic group. London does have some rough areas, however, it certainly will not mean that someone will rob a Chinese person the minute he steps into the vacinty. A person can be attacked in oxford street, kensington, hyde park, etc. There is a good reason why London is regarded as the most multicultural city in the world, and East London is developing nicely. In the next 10 years there will be 35 major centers in London, and South East London will benifit the most. If I was to give a counter argument, everyone should know that Soho and Leicester Square is the top crime spot in London, and it has one of the largest Chinese population in the country. However, its there business, so they can do whatever they want.

China is too tooo safe specially in big cities. I have not met any robbery in my life here, even when I often go out eating after 10 p.m, walking in some empty streets. So some Chinese really feel nervous when meeting robbery during touring abroad and react like being at wits' end. Gun, oh, forget it, I have only shot twenty bullets in all my life in high school and uni military trainning. Most people may never touch guns.

To all Pakistani posters,

I don't think for one second that Chinese people percieve Pakistani people as potential criminals. In fact we all know that Chinese government and Pakistan has a long lasting arrangement about a mutual defense treaty. Meaning China is ready to enter a war if Pakistan is attacked. Now if Chinese people see Pakistani people as potential criminals, why the hell would they be ready to give their lives with you?

China is the only major country that believes in a prosperous Pakistan. You know better then I do that the Western media shows Pakistan as a bad example of a Muslim majority country. Like "country x will become like Pakistan if it goes like this". I know this because such remarks are made for Turkey. Turkey under AKP will become like Pakistan they say. It's like Pakistan is hell and they say Turkey become like hell. Meanwhile Chinese government signs CPEC and investing literally hundereds of billions of dollars to Pakistan for a better future while those politcally correct westerners are insulting you like that.

They say don't go to minority neighbourhoods when you're in London. US arrested a German-Turkish citizen for simply visiting Pakistan after 9/11. You choose which one is politically correct. One side doesn't say anything bad and always talks with carefully chosen words, but thinks visiting Pakistan means you're terrorist. The other one speaks more bluntly (maybe), but ready to die side by side when the time comes.

Actions speak louder then words. Don't fall into the illusions of US regime.

I agree the part 'say it and do it'. @dy1022 We welcome all people to China but we finally find something within the time span.

A fact is that the west is well known to produce most rude badass even worse than others and yes also some decent people. We witnessed it in China.That's we say it after they did it.

Another example is up to some western journalists who fabricated news badmouthing at China even they live in China for some time. So they 'say it' then we 'do it' - they will definitely lose the opportunity to touch the land of China anymore. The cases will increase for sure.

The problem that Airline China has committed should be fixed. That's an incident with sincere remind just to our people but really ignored the feelings from other people. It's another style of we 'say it' after they 'did it'.

Indeed, we observed foreigners carefully mainly by his behaviors - 'did it' then there comes the judgement - 'say it' in relatively long time span. And yes, sometimes we are just too confident in the field.

Actually, we judge people not by their skins but the behaviors. There are many east asians, south asians, blacks, browns and whites who are popular in China, you can see them appeared in some popular TV programs.

I just explained the thinking patterns of our people and the facts occurred in China. To some people, maybe hurts still exists.

But Air China is just looking out for its customers. If one Chinese get mugged, it will hurt the airline. I do admit that the Airline should also warn about bad white neighbourhood also besides indians and black neighbourhood

Chinese cities are safe, however, like all big metropolitan cities, crime can occur anywhere. I travel to London on a regular basis and do you know the reason why a number of Chinese travel to Hackney, even though it's repuation is bad in comparison to other borough's. They often purchase Burberry clothing at a discounted price rather than visiting Bicester Village. Gun crime in the UK is very low and it's prohibited to carry firearms. However, I understand your point of view that in China life really begins during the night and its safe. You should come to Pakistan and we can fire some guns together From an investment point of view, East London is currently hot in the market and it's not surprising to see China Minsheng Corp investing $1.5 bllion in East London Docklands.

Having lived in London before, I can report that Indian and Pakistani areas are not glamorous, but tend to be safe. The neighborhoods to watch out for are populated by blacks and chavs. Recently, I've heard a lot of reports of Poles being murdered in Essex.

Good observations, but the Chav thing is applicable to the black folks who behave badly as well. It's more of a culture thing i.e. buying into that gangster rap rubbish. On my road I have four black families, all middle class and lovely. It's a class thing.

I saw a lot of white kids in Australia, who act like trunks, wearing five dollar clothes, wondering around the street and drinking on the train. Local manufacturing is dying and youth unemployment is high. I feel them hopeless.
