I am a little worried about the guy, first Avinash and then this. Even if there were valid reasons, the way the firings were done reeks of incompetence and rushed decisions. Nobody even considered the optics of firing the designer right after a successful test.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has stepped in to clear the row behind the controversial transfer of a top missile project director in charge of the strategic Agni 5 missile. Sources said that Parrikar has passed instructions to keep in abeyance the order for the transfer of RK Gupta that was issued by former DRDO chief Avinash Chander in his last days in office.
The last minute transfer, which was officially dated January 9 but was received by Gupta only on February 2, has created a furore with allegations of favoritism towards a senior woman scientist emerging against Chander, who was sacked by the government last month. Sources said that Parrikar has issued instructions to VK Sekaran DG (Missiles and Strategic Systems) to keep the transfer order on hold till he gets a complete picture of the situation.

The Defence Minister is expected to visit Hyderabad, where the Agni project is headquartered, to sort out the mess over the weekend. The abrupt transfer of Gupta as the Agni 5 project director had raised eyebrows given that the scientist had been instrumental to the missile system and had overseen a successful launch just two days before he received the letter.

Gupta has been closely associated with the Agni 5 missile project for years and is considered to be the brains behind expanding the scope of the system, throwing India into a select group of nations with intercontinental range.

Sources said that the defence ministry has taken exception to the manner in which Gupta was transferred from the top post. While the ministry was not informed, officials said the decision reeked of foul play. The government, it may be recalled, sacked Chander last month with the Defence Minister raising questions on the manner in which the scientist was given an extension by the UPA government.

The defence ministry, officials said, has now initiated a process to review all the files cleared by Chander in his last month in office. Not only project, but appointments and postings initiated by Chander are now under review. In his last few months in office, Chander appeared to have lost the trust of the government that is keen on a radical change to the DRDO. Plans include a restructuring of the organization and bringing in a set of new, young leaders.

Obviously backdated with malafide intent.

First off all I am not a Chander supporter or anything .

I maintain that GO shoul have handle matter with some dicretion .
This particular Revelation raises lot of question than clearing anything . It does not make anything tantalizingly obvious as you are making it to be .

what was the date of order passed by Mr Chander ?
what was the date of decision by MOD to fire Mr Chander ?
what was the date of Mr Chander's exit ?
why the order passed on or dated 9'th January reached on 2'nd February ?
what were reasons that forced Mr Chander to transfer mr gupta ?

You better search or wait for these answers before you start ranting .

Victimisation of RK Gupta was one reason too which leads to retirement of Avinash Chandar. MOD wasnt happy woth Chandar the way he treated RK Gupta.
