What's new

After Talgo, Indian Railways tests push-pull locomotive train in Rajasthan to increase speed

It will be a sad day for me when the WDM series retires from the IR. They have been the face of the IR for me since my childhood.:(

There are still lot of WDM2s ,active doing mainline activities
http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/ra.../downloads/Traction/2016/Diesel_July_2016.pdf

And a lot more relegated to shunting duties.

And then there are a lot of WDM2s rebuilt as WDM3A, new built WDG3A and the most recent WDM3Ds to keep the ALCO legacy alive. @anant_s seems that WDM3D production by DMW has stopped , and they too will move towards building EMDs, can you confirm it ?

But for me , the power of my vacation journeys , WAM4 .... looks difficult they will survive another FY.

@anant_s was surprised to see the train being pulled by a diesel loco!

As i posted above, yesterday's trials were limited to 120 kph and those are well within 135 kph capacity of WDP 4B (loco used in above trial). But anything above that mark, WAP 5 will come into picture and the next set of trials at 140+ should be behind WAP 5. Some of my FB friends from faridabad will be covering the event, so i'll keep info posted in this thread.

As on today Diesel Modernization works Patiala and Loco Workshop Parel are only manufacturing utilities still producing WDM 3D. But this won't go for long, unfortunately.
