After Talgo, Indian Railways tests push-pull locomotive train in Rajasthan to increase speed

Looking forward to it! Just yesterday I read an article posted on SSC forum that the Gatimaan Express has been plagued by problems? Frequent delays, technical snags and such?
Yes some teething troubles.
The route where they are running Gatimaan is an utterly saturated route. It therefore puts a lot of pressure on both crew and section controllers to run the train in a very tight schedule.
Besides some technical issues with WAP 5 such as Gear Drive are being sorted out and hopefully these problem of delays should be a thing of past shortly.

In that case they will have to disturb other schedules to run this on time.....

Any word on how the first trial went? Or all will be revealed later and together?

As i write, the trials are still going on today. These are expected to last for a few days.
IR is looking for Lateral movements and oscillations (sway movement) at speeds upto 180 kph. The track section where trials are going on is pretty straight and therefore, the trainset should have no problem in successfully completing them.

In that case they will have to disturb other schedules to run this on time.....
New Delhi Mathura section is shared by all trains going towards mumbai (either Central or Western route) and South India (via Itarsi nagpur) and therefore is such a crowded section, that if any train losses time, a huge many trains get affected. In case of gatimaan too, since the intent is to allow train travel at 160 kph consistently (barring speed restriction patches), a lot of trains are diverted to loop lines allowing Gatimaan to overtake them, but operationally it becomes a difficult exercise for railways to execute this plan.

@anant_s all this is well and good , any idea about when will we able to see the first GE evolution series ?

Was wondering that the first few were to be directly imported, and now that the deal has been signed then ....

Further two weeks ago got to know that GE will start delivering 55 Evolution series locomotives to PR by this year end. Will those be same as ours ?

chinese high speed locos are awesome to travel . the way they made those locos would make me a feel like that im in a space shuttle

2018 is the time i'm hearing. these will be US built and imported pieces before Marhaura works start to deliver by 2019-2020.

Pakistan has ordered GE ES 43ACi (ES: Evolution Series, 4300 HP, AC-AC electricals, i: IGBT traction), order quantity 55 locos.

these are very similar to 4500 HP locomotive to be built in India. Both 6000 and 4500 HP locomotives are Evolution series meeting US Tier 4 emission norms.

Trivia: After about 50 years, this will be first time that both India and Pakistan will be using a same loco model simultaneously. GM supplied WDM 4 class to IR and GT 26 cass to Pakistan railways.

Talgo on Saturday commenced its second phase trial from Mathura (Source: talgo.com)
Spanish train Talgo on Saturday commenced its second phase trial from Mathura at 120 km per hour speed with senior officials from Spain and Railways onboard.

The train with nine coaches started the journey at 12.40 PM from Mathura and reached Palwal at 1.33 PM covering the 84 km distance in about 53 minutes, said a senior railway official who is part of the testing team.

The trial between Mathura and Palwal will go on for 25 days and the speed will go up to 180 kmph this time, he said.

Asked about the trial results, he said “prima facie it seems to be okay. :cheers:But it will be known only after the examination of the various datas being recorded during the trial journey.”

Earlier, the speed was ranging between 80-115 km per hour during the first trial between Bareilly and Moradabad stations last month.

Hauled by a 4,500 HP diesel engine, Talgo coaches are lightweight and designed in a way that it can run on curves without decelerating the speed.

That's good, will benefit the PR and relive their age old locos , but didn't they had Alcos too ?
Off late they have relied on Chinese locomotives. But unfortunately the performance hasn't been up to the mark and now it looks authorities have taken sensible decision to purchase US locomotives featuring 3 phase technology with good tractive effort and HP.

It will be a sad day for me when the WDM series retires from the IR. They have been the face of the IR for me since my childhood.:(

ALCO WDM 2 and its melodious horn is really a part of childhood memories associated with once a year travel during summer vacations. But now with only last few hundred examples built till late 80s surviving and that too coming close to end of their codal life (35 years), by 2020, all WDM 2 would go in pages of history.
However ALCO 251C variants (WDG 3A and WDM 3D) will survive for another 15 years, keeping the legacy of erstwhile Schenectady company alive.

i.e nothing got launched off the tracks laterally....but specific swaying data will have to be analysed and ensure within norms :D
