Beijing: After Djibouti, China is planning to build its second foreign naval base in Pakistan, according to a South China Morning Post report.

The base is most likely to come up near Gwadar, according to Beijing-based military analyst Zhou Chenming.

"China needs to set up another base in Gwadar for its warships because Gwadar is now a civilian port," the South China Morning Post (SCMP) quoted Chenming as saying.

"It's a common practice to have separate facilities for warships and merchant vessels because of their different operations. Merchant ships need a bigger port with a lot of space for warehouses and containers, but warships need a full range of maintenance and logistical support services," Chenming further told the SCMP.

Another source, which is close to the People's Liberation Army, has also confirmed the development.

"Gwadar port can't provide specific services for warships ... Public order there is in a mess. It is not a good place to carry out military logistical support," the source told the SCMP.

The SCMP story came after a report, which appeared on the Washington-based website The Daily Caller, a few days ago indicated the same.

US Army Reserve colonel Lawrence Sellin (retired) had stated that a consensus was reached in one of the meetings between Chinese and Pakistani military officers that a military base would come up on the Jiwani peninsula near Gwadar and close to the Iranian border.

China had already declared in the past that Pakistan is China's Israel.

Insurance policy for Pakistan it is!

Vessel state!

Seems like Pakistan never remember what Saudis and Americans did with their bases in Pakistan! Selling land for money to foreign countries pay back very hardly like OBL raid.

Ironically, Pakistan's sworn enemy, India, is the one keeping it from ever becoming a vessel state.

Due to the size of India and the very real potential, however unrealized, Pakistan will always be a friend of a world power. For if something goes wrong, Pakistan always have another option, see US and Pakistan. The same can be reversed should China make the same mistake. Though I doubt it, as India is next door to us where as most Americans don't even know where Asia is.

South Asian interest overall will forever trump any limited interest in any one country. Truly ironic, its greatest enemy is its greatest bargaining chip.

great job guys.

America was never a reliable ally of pakistan

With these two bases, we are basically neutralizing the IN threat to our supply lines, they screw our ships, we screw back their upstream. This is a very strategic move. Indian sub force is in a mess, at most they only have half a dozen operational subs, that's why China is selling Pakistan 8 nos with AIPs. Coupled with our IOR fleet, we can keep IN in check. Brilliant move.

India and vessel state?:lol: Imagine USA or Russia becoming vessel states not India.

World power? China? Kiddo, China paid some money to Pakistan as they took from UAE/Saudis or US in the past for having their bases in Pakistan. Just another country using Pakistan for their own reasons.

We are getting used to it seeing for decades. OBL raid is still in mind! :guns:
