Nirbhay in an artist's imagination

After the successful launch of Agni-V, the nation can look forward to the first flight test of the indigenously developed subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay.

Avinash Chander, chief controller (missiles and strategic systems), Defence Research and Development Organisation, while speaking to this newspaper, said that although the exact date for the first flight test of Nirbhay is yet to be decided, it would definitely be sometime later this year.

Officials at the Defence Research and Development Organisation disclosed that Nirbhay has a range of 750 km to 1,000 km and its first flight test will be launched from the Integrated Test Range at Balasore in Odisha.

Nirbhay is capable of carrying nearly two dozen different warheads as per the requirements in the field and can be launched from multiple platforms including air, land and sea.
It is a two stage missile being developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defence Research and Development Organisation.

Nirbhay uses an inertial navigation system for guidance and is capable of choosing one particular target amongst multiple targets. So far only Su-30 MKI has been equipped with Brahmos supersonic cruise missile and Astra medium-range air-to-air missile. Sources said that this subsonic cruise missile will be inducted into all the three defence forces: the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The air-launched version of Nirbhay for Su-30MKI aircraft of the Indian Air Force, would further accentuate the range and strike capability.

Specifically designed for Su-30 MKI, this cruise missile is equipped with ‘loitering’ capabilities and is going to enhance the Indian/Russian BrahMos supersonic cruise missile by covering more distance.

Except for its engine, Nirbhay has been developed indigenously. Sources also disclosed that the Tatas are building the carrier or launch vehicle for Nirbhay.

Nirbhay (India) - Jane's Strategic Weapon Systems

Nirbhay (India), Offensive weapons

Description
The Nirbhay cruise missile development programme was first reported in India in September 2007, but is believed to have started in 2005. The missile has been described as being similar to the US RGM-109 Tomahawk and the Russian Club (SS-N-27), and is being developed by the DRDO in Hyderabad. There are expected to be several versions of the missile, starting with a ground-launched version, and then followed possibly by submarine- and air-launched versions. The Nirbhay missile is believed to have a length of 6.0 m, a body diameter of 0.5 m and a launch weight of 1,500 to 1,600 kg. It is believed to have a payload of 450 kg, which would suggest an HE, submunitions or small nuclear warhead, possibly in the 12 kT range. Guidance is reported to be Inertial Navigation System/Global Positioning System (INS/GPS) with an active radar terminal seeker. The missile is launched using a solid propellant boost motor, which is jettisoned after use, and a turbojet motor takes over for the subsonic cruise and terminal phases. It is believed that assistance has been provided with the turbojet engine by a Russian company, and that this engine is similar to the TRDD-50. A cruise speed of between M0.8 and M0.9 has been reported. The maximum range is believed to be between 800 and 1,000 km. A wheeled Transporter-Erector-Launcher (TEL) vehicle is reported to be in development by the Research and Development Establishment (Engineering) at Pune.Unconfirmed reports suggested that some flight tests started in 2007.

shiv aroor was saying above impression of nirbhay is wrong

anyway waiting for test

best luck to DRDO

I think the nirbhay's loitering capability will be similar to the israeli delilah.Ucan check delilah on future weapons israel section after spyder.
Anyway for me these beasts will matter as counters to chinese infrastructure buildup from air via mkis and the badass p15b follow on kolkata class.

Nice!! Really nice!!!

For upto a good amount of time, Nirbhay MK-I's 1000km would outstrip Babur's 750km range.:taz:
Later MK-II/III Nirbhays would also come outstripping the Tomahawk with 2500-3000km range.:taz:

. .
The Nirbhay-SUPER-MKI combination is a game changing an entralling thought, although it would be a gut-wrenching one if you happened to get on the wrong side of India!

I Ain't Satisfy or Happy

I again amphasize and say " Quality is not enough without Quantity".

The Shaurya, Agni 1 are good battle field stuffs but in how many numbers? Whether we do have enough numbers of these missiles.
Recently one letter licked and its revealed that we lacks in army of mordern weapons. More than 90% weapons are outdated. For army we have only few hundred tanks of T 90 other whole fleet are old junks. Scrapes. After Boforce we have not purchase tops for years. We have no mordern radar guided tops. We have old pichora missiles. We lacks both Defence or Offence. We didnt make roads and infrastructeres nearborders. China pronounce some dialogs and we stoped to make road near border. And once they said china sea is our we left it too. China had said Indian ocean not belongs to India. We heard it. Antony told china dea not only belongs to china we hear it and now time to claps for living china sea. Claps like transgender r hell.

We have no extreme weapons or prepRation at Arunachal. Our Goverenment is hell. Kill these garbages. Time arosen for a "kranti"

China and Pak r prepared betterly. Pakis shall ready or not China is 100% prepatred TO WIN THE WAR.

Dont Misunderstood Bros. Dont forget,

We r at War with china. Not in future. The word war started. China win its.

And Ready to hear repetation of 1962. And then congress will suspend militery leaders for not to fight with chinise soldiars with junk yards. Ready to hear suspension of Generals etc.. And then people will hear again songs "kar chale ham fida ja vatan sathion" and we will cry on chinas doing again. And forget in some ten years and then talk to improve relations with china. Meanwhile all Indians shall use chinise goods without any SHAME. .......
