Afghanistan has notified Pakistan about waiver of financial guarantee of 110 per cent custom duty as well as $100 per 25 ton charges on Pakistani transit goods to Central Asian states, while the Pak-Afghan Joint Economic Commission meeting will be held here on August 26-27.

This was conveyed to Pakistan during a meeting between Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai and Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday.

The Afghan envoy informed the minister that notification about waiver of financial guarantee of 110 per cent custom duty as well as $100 per 25 ton charges on Pakistani goods transiting through Afghanistan to Central Asian states had been issued. Dar welcomed issuance of the notification and said it would help enhance Pakistan’s trade with the Central Asian states.

It is important to mention that Pakistan has already withdrawn the similar financial charges on the Afghan transit goods from July 1, this year. Afghanistan was also bound to reciprocate the move to facilitate intra-regional trade. Both countries are part of Asian Development Bank supported CAREC programme

They finalized the date of the 10th Pak-Afghan Joint Economic Commission meeting on August 26-27 in Islamabad. The Afghanistan side would be led by Finance Minister Eklil Ahmad Hakimi while Ishaq Dar would head the Pakistan side.

Pakistan needs to increase trade with Afghanistan itself dramatically. The threat of Chahabar is big enough that Afghanistan may end up being in India's pocket once again, so Pakistan must do whatever it takes to remain Afghanistan's number one trade partner.

Some posters on PDF wanted Pakistan to stop exporting Dairy and Poultry to Afghanistan. Some people are still bitter about the defeat of their Talibans in Afghanistan. They also would like to deport vulnerable Afghan refugees to Afghanistan where civil war still raging. Pakistan need to increase exports to Afghanistan especially foodstuff should not have any restrictions.

At the cost of keeping hungry Pakistani mouths empty.
