New Delhi: Afghanistan will finally have its new Parliament building at Kabul, built by India's premier government-owned construction agency Central Public Works Department (CPWD), by this month end.
The work for this project started in December 2009 and the original schedule for completion was December 2011. Sources in the urban development ministry said CPWD has informed that the building and other facilities will be ready in the next fortnight. "It will be ready for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon," a ministry source said.
Sources said that the pace of construction increased significantly during the past two years and it was decided not to extend the deadline further. "Since the focus was to complete it quickly and in a time-bound manner, urban developmement minister M Venkaiah Naidu reviewed the progress twice," said a ministry official.
