The Pakistan military is waging a war on its provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani said on Wednesday. Seeking deeper cooperation with India, Dr. Ghani said there were two wars raging in South Asia with the first in Afghanistan and the other across the Afghanistan-Pakistan borders in the two Pakistani provinces where Pakistan is fighting a “blowback.”

“Today there are two wars raging [in South Asia]. The war in my country is not a civil war. What kind of a political solution is possible when you have nine internationally recognised terrorist groups operating in your country [Afghanistan]? The second war is the war in Pakistan. But the media do not speak about that. There are two hundred seven thousand members of the Pakistani army just in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and of course in Balochistan. This war needs coverage.”

However, the two countries did not make any reference to military assistance that Afghanistan has requested from India. During a visit to Delhi a few weeks ago, Afghan Army chief General Qadam Shah Shahim put in requests for more helicopters, tanks, artillery and ammunition, as well as training for more Afghan forces. Despite being asked on the specifics of what India, which has traditionally been wary of supplying Afghanistan lethal military hardware, would provide Afghanistan, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said he had nothing to add beyond the joint statement.

"not a civil war" could have fooled me. I mean, what else would you call fighting your own nation's citizens?

Likewise, Pakistan's war in baluchistan (almost dead) and the war with the TTP is also a civil war, even if the BLA/BRA/BSO and TTP are all terrorist organizations.

he is jealous because his army don't have access to 40 percent of their country. pakistan had cantonments all across pakistan since 1947. why is it a headache for them. 207k of 650k is just a small numbers. these 207k also include FC and police. they have always been there. i think pakistan should send these refugees back or capture pashtun areas in afghanistan for these 4 million people just like turkey is doing in syria.

This is a joke right. Every analyst categorizes it as a civil war. They are not an invading army that have taken over 1/3rd of your nation. They have support on the ground. Which is why they are able to recruit very well, hide very well and run their controlled districts smoothly.

Another question that ghani needs yo answer. The poppy harvest of this season was extremely bountiful so why didn't the ANA take the initiative of retaking Helmand and urzugan rather than lose district after district, where majority of poppy fields are situated. They earned 3 billion dollars and got new recruits bcz that's when they meet the people the most as hard working farmers. Why were the Taliban allowed this?,

Its a civil war and a very severe one. The pashtun supported Taliban are fighting and so far they have control of your about 37% of the nation mostly in pashtun majority areas. How else would you categorize such a thing.

But you can't expect him to say that we are fighting a war against our own people bcz he was criticizing us for that.

All of what you say may be true -- but the question is what does Ghani sab and by extension the top Kabul brass see through their eyes.

I don't think our leadership underestimates the danger they pose especially military leadership. This is why we have seen focus on building border controls and refugee repatriation as well as a more hardening stances. The army has also worked on increasing the number of FC personnel to create greater security of the border and protection.

Whilst I don't have much hope from the civilian leadership when it comes to political cleverness, I do have hope from the military in seeing and underlining the threat.

However such statements will make sure that Afghanistan and pakistan enter into the ties of the 60s where we both ended up fighting engagements with each other and relations were extremely low.

Generals always suffer from three problems:
1. Target fixation
2. They don't know when to give up
3. Most things to them look like a nail (when you're a hammer ...)

I wouldn't give the Generals any more credit than necessary -- they have experience and momentum on their side -- but I wouldn't give them points for strategy

Generals rarely ever make political masters but I don't have much hope fro. Our politicians and that includes all the so called leaders.

Nawaz has a massive non confrontation policy ever since he came into power. He has not met anything head on and has chosen the more quite route towards more serious actions. The two times his govt being broken down has created this fear in him. He was very confrontational in the 90s. So don't expect ingenious moves from him.

Nisar is one and he also has made political moves within N that placed nawaz under stress but as I said we don't have politicians of such conniving cleverness. Its something that's just not available.

Our hope on meeting the politicians of the enemy state on equal footing lies on civil bureaucracy ( not much hope there) and the military.

Zardari was politically shrewd but he was corrupt as hell and I mean corrupt. Most corrupt in the regions history.
