Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to operationalize the joint commission on release of prisoners and holding of Ulema Conference in Kabul to advance the peace process.
Afghan Foreign Minister, Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, arrived in Islamabad on Friday on a day-long visit for bilateral talks, that will focus on peace process in his country, the Afghan embassy said.
Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul on Friday agreed to increase cooperation in order to deal with terrorism and other mutual challenges faced by the two countries.
Pakistan handed over draft of Strategic Partnership Agreement to Afghanistan to further build up bilateral relations with the neighboring country.
The document was shared by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar during a meeting with her Afghan counterpart Dr. Zalmai Rassoul here on Friday.
President Karzai and his Pakistani counterpart had agreed in their meeting in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in late September, to finalise a strategic partnership agreement by 2013 to strengthen bilateral relations.
Khar said stability in Afghanistan was in the best interests of Pakistan and added that Pakistan would continue to support the Afghan people as it had done in the past. She said Pakistan would assist Afghanistan in increasing its educational and trade sectors.
Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul said his country sees relations with Pakistan as the most significant one in terms of the common challenges faced by both the countries.
Furthermore, Rassoul said the use of Afghan soil to launch attacks against Pakistan would not be permitted. He added that cross-border firing from Afghanistan had also decreased.
