In order to sustain the guerrilla movement. Since US backed Afghan generals/drug lords are themselves involved in drug trade, tolerated by the coalition forces.

Plus the CIA supported drug cartels of South America in during the cold war as well. It's well documented. But people like you swallow whatever your governments tell you without asking any questions, that's part of the problem.
