Afghanistan exports through Wagah border to be restored from July 15:

Pakistan has decided to restore Afghanistan's exports through the Wagah border from July 15 onwards at the special request of Kabul and to faciliate Afghan Transit Trade, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Monday.

"At the special request of the Government of Afghanistan and with a view to facilitating Afghanistan’s transit trade, Pakistan has decided to resume Afghan exports through Wagah border crossing from 15 July 2020, after implementing COVID-19 related protocols," said the statement.

The FO stated that with this step, Pakistan has fulfilled its commitments under Pakistan-Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA).

"Pakistan has restored bilateral trade and Afghan transit trade at all border crossing terminals to pre-COVID-19 status," said the statement.

The Foreign Office also stated that Islamabad remains "fully committed" to improving bilateral relations with Afghanistan in all areas including trade, and to facilitate Afghanistan’s transit trade under APTTA.

Why the hell has Afghanistan been given access to India via wagah?

Is this to undermine the Indian port in Iran?

.
And what will Pakistan get in return?
More terrorism from Afghan soil and more interference in ex FATA?

No, they promised not to attack ex-FATA. Instead they will attack Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad like they started to.

Cash stripped pakistan gets transit fees and taxes. Although I am totally against pakistan making any money from Afghanistan and India and hope that alternate routes are worked out.

Honorable Sir,

What has Pakistan gained thus far as a consequence of the denial of the Afghan Transit Trade through Wagah? Nothing, except the wrath of the Afghans and a deepening resentment of India which borders on outright hostility.

In my humble opinion, Trade not only brings peace but also brings people together. Like it or not Afghanistan is our neighbor, the country with whom we share 2,200-kilometre-long border., Therefore good relations with Afghanistan should be one of the most important cornerstones of our foreign policy.

Every farsighted person would agree that stability & prosperity in Afghanistan is vital for the stability, security & prosperity in Pakistan. Transit trade would not only improve our relations with two of our neighbors but would also open up possibilities for increasing our contacts and trade with the Central Asian countries via the Afghan land route. Most importantly it would make the transit trade via a land route across Iran to Chah Bahar port and the subsequent sea route to India commercially uneconomic.

Must we remain frozen in time and destroy any goodwill this gesture will generate by asking for a ‘Quid pro quo’?
Like the Kartarpur corridor, this is a very good decision of the PTI gov’t. There may not be any obvious advantage to us right away but this policy is bound to return us large economic as well as peace dividends in the medium term.

I wholeheartedly support this decision.

Pakistan should keep trade and defence matters separate. Let trade continue but deal strongly on terrorism from afghanistan. Pakistan not good on discretion.

Sometime I fail to understand Gen Bajwa policies. Transit routes are all handled by PA.

.
Hopefully this will further help the fragile country of Afghanistan further.

Ancient trade routes should be respected.

This is a security risk as Afghan can and will carry terrorism equipment from India to Pakistan while on the way back to Afghanistan.

Hon Sir,

Your concern is no doubt genuine. Every Pakistani should worry about the security risk.
However, please consider the following.

Pakistan shares a 2, 200 Km long pours border with Afghanistan. I learned long time ago that apparently there 18 Crossing Points. I can only name 8 of these.

Torkham: The main route between Peshawar & Jalalabad.
Chaman- Spin Boldak: Main route between Chaman & Qandahar
Ghulam Khan: Route between Miranshah & Khost
Angur Adda: Wana-Ghazni route
Arandu: Chitral-Jalabad route
Alizai: Kurram Valley-Khost route
Nawa Pass: Peshawer - Asadabad route
Tari Manga: Kurram Valley- Khost route

Pakistan on Thursday announced it will reopen two more border crossings with Afghanistan to boost trade between the neighbors. Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s special a representative for Afghanistan, said the crossings are likely to be reopened before mid-July.

“Pakistan will open Angor Adda and Kharlachi border crossings for trade with Afghanistan. After necessary arrangements by both sides, the two crossings are likely to become operational on 12 July,” he tweeted.
Last month Islamabad reopened the Torkham, Chaman, and Ghulam Khan border crossings, after they were closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unquote

With so many transit points already open for bilateral as well as Afghan Export trade; Raw, Mossad, and whosoever have plenty of possibilities for infiltration. Do you honestly think that opening Wagah border with India for the Afghan Transit trade is going to make much of a difference? Especially when compared to the Good Will this gesture will generate?

My most honorable compatriot isn't is about the time that we start thinking outside of the box.
