. . . . .
the majority of afghan were and are religious though. i dont think the pics represent majority of afghanistan at that time.
brother, why are you making me to repeat the same thing over and over. did i ever deny that we are religious? yes we are. but even religion is overshadowed by our customs. i was basically talking about the type of gov afghanistan had, it was not islamic and religious, it was secular.

.
before the disaster started in the country(over 3 decades ago), Afghanistan was secular and nobody was complaining.

So, if no one was complaining, WHY was there a call for Islamization, and how did they gain so much popular support that ended with the hanging of the puppet king??

Whether u like it or not, the Afghans and Pathans have been very true to Islam, they have always been a very Muslim oriented people. The pictures u have displayed display the elite and the elite all over the world belong to one single cult, they are not true representatives of the masses.

Even in Pakistan, the Pashtuns are famous for being practicing Muslims. Most pashtuns observe prayers and will not leave the fast during ramadan, even though they are mostly involved in manual labour of the most difficult kind. It is precisely this strong religiouosly ideological awareness that prompted them to wage JIHAD against the Kaffir Russians. BTW, Communism is secularism's ugly twin and since the basic concept of communism is to shun religion, the Afghans would have not liked the notion of leading God-less lives.

(When I say Pashtuns i mean Afghans as well, because genogically speaking they are the same race).

i dont know which puppet king you are talking about who got hunged?

Nop, it wasnt the elite, all the ordinary people in the cities were like this. you again displayed the attitude of a pakistani friend who is deliberately or even unknowengly trying to say that everything about afghanistan is the pashtons, lets pray for the complete monopoly of the gov by our pashtoons and see what you will lose/gain from it.

Not only pashtoons but all the other ethnic groups of afghanistan were muslims and practicing their religion on personal basis, lets differntiate between being religious and extremist religious. As per fighting against the soviets, it wasnt pashtoons only, but all the ethnics of afghanistan fought(did the mistake) the soviets. What we are talking about right now is the life and system of gov in afghanistan before the soviets came to the country.

the name afghan is a source of tension between pashtoons adn non pashtons, as it completely sidelines the identity of the non pashtoons, sadly it is doing more bad than good for us.
