Damned if we do, damned if we don't. There isn't going to be a quick fix for Afghanistan keeping in view the history between the two countries. Carrot and stick would work for forseeable future.

Quick fix perhaps not.

But securing our internal security is a must, and make the western border impenetrable by Afghans.

The Afghan game plan is clear, spread sleeper cells throughout Pakistan and begin an insurgency, and attempt to provoke a civil war. Then Afghanistan will provide continous manpower and support to sustain it.

They use the porous and poorly managed border, and the cross-border travels and refugees to exercise this plan freely. A buffer zone should be seriously considered. And Afghans deported, because every Afghan male is potentially an insurgent within our borders.

Western border is the key to cut off any Afghan support into destabilising Pakistan. And then removing the internal insurgents, which are refugees and a few locals.

Totally agree here. Internal security is of utmost importance and also border control is the need of the hour. My comment was pertaining to our relationship with Afghan govt.

Yeah, in relation to Afghanistan itself.

The least worst option would be a Taajik nationalist government. There's people who claim they keep close ties with India and Iran, which is true. But so do the current Afghan regime and others. They will do anything for their conflict against Pakistan to succeed. But Taajiks specifically don't have expansionist desires against us.

But with a Taajik nationalist government, we can use the Afghan Pashtuns as a pressuring tool to let them know if you support anti-Pakistan activities we can always hit back hard. This way we can force them to control destabilising elements.

If they want to seek positive relations with other countries that's their choice, but seeking specifically anti-Pakistan policy we will have leverage to retaliate.

Don't compare the two or underestimate the enemy.

Afghans have infiltrated deep inside Pakistan with sleeper cells using refugees and porous border. They will wage an insurgency war like they did Americans and provoke our own Pashtuns to side with them to create a civil war.

This will be guerilla warfare. Not conventional.
