Afghan refugees in Pakistan wait for reforms

At least there is something good you meant for the country . This isn't practical actually . Why run the country on emotions ? Why cant we expel them to be really honest ? Why should we carry the burden forever ? What exactly stops us ? Do we not know the kind of activities these people who do not consider this country " as their country " are involved in ? Are we really not aware of the " hate " that exists in their hearts ?

Answer me , my friend , have you ever talked to an Afghan living in Pakistan or the ones living on the other side of the Khyber Pass ?

I have and i know their attitude towards Pakistan. The question i usually ask myself is 'do we need to stoop to their level' ?
Deporting them is not simple, most of them are AWOL without any paperwork or trace. If you have a pragmatic solution to this issue please suggest so.

My friend, you are biased because of the ones in Karachi. The thing is, you'd be surprised to know that the ones involved in power struggle with MQM are not Afghans. They are all settled Pashtuns. This is a very old fight.

To quote an Afghan friend of mine who belongs to Paktia but was raised in Pakistan and studied in the same university as me; when I asked him what if the residents of FATA decided to join Afghanistan
" We will make them regret their decision ten times, we dont like them nor do we like Pakistan".

A study of the relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan should suffice to explain why we are most unfortunate for that mountainous and unenforceable border with them. Not to belittle Afghans though, as I am sure they hold similar emotions towards us. Essentially, we are nor should be good allies or friends and its best we mind our own business and they theirs apart from trade and stick to being good neighbours and NOTHING more.

In other words, if there is a massive earthquake in Kabul; send the tents via C-130, make a sympathetic statement and pledge donations, But do NOT send any paramedics, workers or otherwise into that country. They will not want it, and that is what makes them happy. We have exploited them in the past to keep India out, its best we stick to that policy ; smile and wave. Stick to blowing up anti-Pakistani activities there to reduce their effect.

Thank you , I was just trying to explain it to him . The delusions of the Indus river as the natural border are well known and obvious from their actions , statements and thinking from the very beginning . Its not something , we can deny , bury our heads in the sands and be OK with . Not as a nation , no . As for the regret , everyone has come to Afghanistan , made the Afghans regret and then left at the time of its own choosing and convenience .

Again I've very surprised by your response but here is a blog post by Jeff Weintraub, a respected commentator -- the poll he cites is ABC/BBC/ARD national public opinion poll in Afghanistan

And actually according to that poll the number of people holding an un-favorable view of Pakistan was 91%.

There are other references but I've stopped keeping track.

This is the usual thinking pattern towards Pakistan , he was just another one of the same lot . Why it did matter even remotely for you if he carried a certain - Bangash or -Khel after his name ? . I cant explain the animosity to you if you do not already know despite having much knowledge about these matters . The hate isn't limited to " Farsiwans " , its raining all over the place , your clans may maintain a few nice relations across the border but that doesn't change the feelings , attitudes and actions towards your country in general .
