Affluent Indian families killing unborn girls

.
.
AS a matter of fact a developing countries sex ratio declines in the first but slowly improves as it grows.Eg:China which has a lower sex ratio than India.

Unborn girls killed in India is unfortunately a huge problem, & it doesn't seem to be improving. No wonder the child sex ratio is deteriorating:

As the National Girl Child’s day is celebrated today, shaming statistics about the extent of female foeticide in India continue to emerge. By the estimates of the National Human Rights Commission, an astounding 700,000 unborn girls are killed on an annual basis.

Seven lakh girls are killed by parents every year in India even before they are born, NHRC member and former envoy Satyabrata Pal claimed.

"When a woman finds she is pregnant, anxieties set in about the sex of the unborn child. Ruthless foeticide often follows if tests that are illegal, but easy to get, show it is a girl," Pal said while delivering the Sisir Bose Memorial lecture at Netaji Research Bureau here last night.

The former diplomat, who was quoting UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund and formerly known as United Nations Fund for Population Activities), also quoted another statistics about 2000 yet unborn-girls meeting similar fate in the womb for the same reason.

"On a scale of cruelty, encounter deaths between security forces and gangs, are a tear drop in the ocean," Pal said.

"While 1.72 million children die in India each year before the age of one, because of our gender bias, the mortality rate is even higher for girls than boys," he said.

Over 15% of births are not planned as some parents have no access to family planning services.

Of the children born, 25 per cent are underweight at birth and continue to be undernourished, Pal said quoting the international body's report on status of children in India.

"The percentage of under five children who are underweight is almost 20 times as high in India as would be expected in a healthy, well nourished population and is almost twice as high as the average percentage of under-weight children in sub-Saharan African countries," Pal said. Speaking about child labour, he said, "It is shameful that in the 21st century, world's largest democracy is still not prepared to outlaw child labour."

I have two points to make...

first, for Indians and all other sensible guys... This is a matter of shame for us, and developed states like Haryana and Punjab are the biggest culprits... We need stricter law enforcement, and greater participation of each one of us in order to deal with it..

For all others, SATI system was abolished more than a hundred years ago... and anyway, whether India has girls or not, how the f*** are u interested??? Just because u get one India-bashing stupid point???? SHAME on all u guys... The name of this site is defence.pk .. so lets talk about defence, particularly wrt India....

@bilalhaider: Even if I get banned , I actually want to kick ur *** for putting that smiling face while regularly putting across moronic and stupid points.... Why can't u talk sense???

and btw, were u planning to get married in India, and we,INDIANS, have killed that "Special One" of yours??? HUH!!!

Again, you're not focusing on the topic at hand. I guess you have nothing useful to contribute on this thread then.

Ok mate, i will just go by topic and compare the issue with the region.

This is a menace of the area esp in south asia.

For example.

the proportion of men and women in Pakistan is 111 men per 100 women — fully 11 men more for every 100 women. This makes it one of the most unequal and unusual sex ratios in the world.

It can be argued that the inverse ratio is at least partially responsible for the prevalent negative attitudes and mindset towards women, their secondary status, and the continuation of laws and policies that negate women’s personhood and rights. The reasons for the anomalous ratio need to be probed, including those that impact women’s lives.

Only two other countries in the world have similar inverse sex ratios — India and China. Like Pakistan, they too have a marked preference for sons, considered a prime reason for high population growth. Pakistan’s own data states that the overall sex ratio is 102 men per 100 women, which the publication itself considers implausibly high, attributing it to a tendency to under-report women.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan official and eminent journalist, I.A. Rehman points out the high demographic impact of female infanticide, maternal mortality, honour killing and death resulting from violence against, and abuse of women. Edhi and Chhipa voluntary services report that newborn babies are still thrown into garbage dumps — and the majority of them are girl babies. Nor has there has been any reduction of women’s deaths due to violence and abuse, including acid burns, ‘stove bursts’, and honour killing.

Like the vicious poverty cycle, Pakistan’s inverse sex ratio is endemic and cyclical: gender inequality, subservience and gender based violence remain insufficiently addressed by current policies, programmes and legislation. Education, which could have helped lift more than 50 per cent women out of poverty, has been criminally denied them, by their families and by inadequate education infrastructure. The combination negatively impacts women’s empowerment and growth, which again promotes women’s secondary status.

Gender imbalance: Pakistan

i used the comparioson to show how much this has affected the region as whole.

why are u so obsessed with what is going on india, why don't keep yourself to your country??

Its a non curable disease.

I am glad you are one of the forthcoming members here.

This topic is not exactly related to SATI, is it? We have a section on Indian economy, Indian development; & many other non-defense related Indian stuff, so all of this is part & parcel of what you get on the PDF. If you are offended by the article, don't complain to me quoting a mainstream Indian outlet like the TOI. You should complain to them not to write such articles if you don't like them.

. .
because we are satisfied with our current methods, we don't want a pakistani poking in what is essentially our internal matter....

Then why are Indians keep poking in Pakistan's internal matters ?

Gender imbalance: Pakistan

i used the comparioson to show how much this has affected the region as whole.

First of all, India's national gender imbalance is the worst in recorded history, far worse than Pakistan's 102 men per 100 women.

http://www.dawn.com/2011/07/16/rural-indias-gender-imbalance-worsens-data.html

Secondly, this thread is not about overall sex ratios, but between child sex ratios; as we are dealing with unborn girls getting killed. Coming back to the topic, of child sex ratios:

The average gender ratio in the country declined to 914 girls aged six and under for every 1,000 boys.

Some areas in the country, which Dr. Kainth described as the “Bermuda Triangle for girls” in India, register only 774 girls for every 1,000 boys born.

Dr. Kainth expressed deep concern over the “600,000 Indian girls [who] go missing every year.”

@Bilal: U have still not understood my intention... See, friend, I'm simply saying... if u put across a point about India, whether positive or negative, with an open mind and genuine intentions, no Indian will oppose u..

the problem is that u guys are questioning us and trying to undermine us on exactly same points where ur PURE and pious nation is performing much much worse than us...and what more, ur malafide intentions are so very clear!!!! So what does that end up proving u as????
