The Pakistan Air Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, told AFM in late April that the air arm is set to receive three new Saab 2000 Erieye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. The first will be delivered in December and the remaining pair will arrive next year.

Saab issued a press release on May 15 announcing that it had signed an AEW&C contract worth SEK 1.35bn (£120m), with deliveries being made from 2017 until 2020. It will not disclose the customer, as is its usual policy, but it is likely this is the same deal.

With the Arrival of 3 New birds and existing 3-4 Units we had from Saab , and 3-4 Units from China we will have a grand total of 9-12 units

Helping keep a close watch on any unusual activity around the Territory

Saab have been a reliable partner and many would imagine further collaboration with Gripen could / or would follow

I think pakistan bought first 4 saab for around 1billion dollar. How will pakistan get another 3 for just $135 million? Is there any mistake in article?

.
Price is not a major issue anymore , what is important is the brand new assets will be put to immediate usage once they arrive to help with keeping a close watch for any Air Space activity

It is really about rewarding the good defence suppliers with return orders

confusing me too that contract was 8.3 billion SEK 4 saab2000 AW and one transport training aircraft . this contract is just SEK 1.35bn.

.
Well the origional contract may have had training and other support , which we perhaps do not need with new items as we already have crew who knows how to use the product

  • The existing crew would train the new batch locally in Pakistan

Also we may have had a discount clause in origional contract that the future purchase would be a incentive

Not that difficult to understand

And for all we know Pakistan would have already made a Payment (Downpayment) long time ago :agree: for the other surplus

A-D-V-A-N-C-E PAYMENT

I hope Pakistan can setup a domestic program for Airborne Radar systems after the experience gained from the two systems. If possible the KLJ-500 AESA should be the next focus of acquisition.

Not forgetting security for bases where they are stationed is paramount more than ever.

Yes, but the production line, software, R&D costs have to be covered and made some profit.
Erieye sales haven't been too good since introduction. Sweden has sold only a handful.
