ADB Reports Pakistan's Middle Class Larger Than India's

Wow what a comparison? Comparing M2 moterway with city roads I guess? Have these guys seen Mumbai Pune expressway? It is comparable to Highways in USA forget Asia itself. Please do compare with current data not old data. Also I am still waiting for your reply on how economic data was collected for India? When more than 50% people do not report correct earnings to either Government or any other agency. I asked this question yesterday and still waiting for reply.

i agreed, people in india donot reveal their exact income. i was in bihar and went to so many villages. i talked to few villagers about the poverty, most of the people told me one thing that in bihar people have enough money but cannot showoff because they afraid that tthey may get kidnap or somebody loot them.

now if you carefully the difference in first three is not that significant..more or less both are at the same level. but in later two there is significant difference.
so you cannot say that pakistan is way ahead of us. they are little better at quality of life front, but at economic and political front they suck. economic front is the gateway of growth at all front.

Clearly, Pakistan economy is stagnant since 2008. But it's only a snapshot, not a trend. As I said earlier, Pakistan's economic CAGR has been faster than India's over several decades.

In terms of politics, it is very subjective this is where the Newsweek bias is the greatest.

India's politics is dominated by criminals and corrupt politicians as much as Pakistan's. Over a third of Indian MPs have either been accused, or convicted of serious crimes including murder and rape, and their convictions are on appeal in India's extremely slow-moving and corrupt justice system.

yay ... cheers for Pakistan! Looks like people in Pakistan are more comfortable with military rule than elected representatives. Corruption is part of the system either it is under military rule or elected representatives.

We know that India needs to improve a lot ... and in fact it is improving day by day with RTE, RTI, NREGA, building infrastructure and lots and lots of other programs aimed at development.

India is definitely moving forward ... on all dimensions of development.

Economy and politics are not static...they are constantly changing yearly.

The creation of the middle class, however, is a much longer term trend.

It is because the situation has so far "never gone volatile " that India has such deep poverty and hunger and absence of social justice.

The best hope for the poor in India does not lie in stability, but in a dramatic change to alleviate their serious deprivations.

Maybe the Maoists will eventually help change it for the better for India's poor.

As to the power cuts, all developing nations, including India, have this phenomenon. After getting worse, the power situation has improved recently in Pakistan. Such problems affect the growth and size of the middle class only over decades..not weeks or months.

how the supply of power has improved, after having devastating floods?? i have read that few power plants are shut off because of floods. in our villages, people get atleast 12 hr of electricity, not like pakistan where cities get less than this.
