Learning from its mistake on the present supply chain of the LCA-Tejas Program which uses traditional approach of carrying out Sub-Assembles, Major Sub Assemblies, and System Integration all done by Lead Integrator. ADA has envisaged plans to use Modular Design construction for development and production of AMCA Programme.

According to ADA officials, AMCA will not follow LCA approach and instead will use many Public and Private sector companies to develop AMCA aircrafts.

Major Modules of AMCA will be divided into 9 modules which will be subcontracted to different companies so has to build each module independently, work of each company selected will be overseen by one agency and will need to meet laid down quality design process, testing, and delivery assurance as agreed upon.

9 modules identified by ADA are 1) Radome,2) front fuselage, 3) Center fuselage, 4 ) Rear Fuselage,5) Horizontal Stabilizers, 6) Vertical Stabilizers, 7) Wings, 8) Main landing Gear, 9) Nose Landing Gear.

ADA plans to outsource Component manufacturing as well as Sub-Assembles, Major Sub Assemblies and only System Integration will be done by Public sector companies like HAL while Private sector companies like Tata and Reliance etc will be doing Sub-Assembles, Major Sub Assemblies while other companies will be involved in the manufacturing of Major Modules of AMCA.

This new radical approach will allow ADA to manufacture aircraft modules at faster rates which will allow earlier preproduction aircrafts to be assembled at shorter durations, ADA plans to identify agencies while the product is at design stage so that they are involved from initial stage of the AMCA program allowing them enough time to build their local expertise over the year before aircraft enters production in seven to eight years after its carries out its first flight .

This is a very smart move.

This is a very smart move.

Smart move indeed, looks like they have learned a lot from the LCA experience

LCA Mark 2 will also follow a similar approach. DRDO is serious about the private participation in several fields now. Rustom 2 for example will be integrated completely by a private firm. Along with other artillery, even eventually tanks maybe.

You need LCA to learn the benefits of modular construction?

I think LCA would be a wrong yardstick here.....it was absolute reverse of what was intended of modular design technique- that is, building and working on smaller sections for a faster lead project completion time.

This source, idrw, is a piece of shit.

LCA is already doing modular construction. It's that HAL is creating the modules and testing them, and also integrating the system and testing it. Now the fabrication and testing of modules is being outsourced to private firms like TATAs, Mahindras, Reliance, etc. And HAL will integrate and test the full system.

What i meant Mr TT is that all the mistakes that were committed in the LCA programme are not being repeated in the AMCA program in this case greater Pvt participation

That's okay, because there is no AMCA programme....

please highlight us on India's aerospace efforts. If a baby step like 4th gen aircraft could not be completed, what makes you think that there actually is an AMCA programme?

I will trust the ADA & Defense Minister's word on this, rather than some random guy on internet

Well,a programme is certainly there, only it's in fetus state as of now!!

Mark 1 of LCA is pretty much done. The pre FOC LCA is in production.

No, the AMCA program isnt, "offical", yet, but it will be. Serious back end work on it's design have been going on for some time.

Even the method of it's supply chain, which we're currently talking about, is going on. And they're looking for an engine supplier right now. It's only a matter of time before it gets the green light.

A fetus needs nutrients and life support..........where does that come from?

I believe Indians intends to learn and copy from the PAK-FA.........

Well,ADA has to rely on whatever experience they have got from the LCA project and some measly amount of funds cleared by the GoI. :(

I wish that was the case, but as things stand today,we've missed that train. :(

.
A very good move indeed. ADA and HAL did learn a lot from the LCA debacle but they still have a lot to learn.
One question- Is there any possibility of using uttam radar when it is matured enuff on AMCA or we are going for a new AESA radar developed with a foreign partner.
