ACM Hakimullah breaks the tradition of flying his own aircaft to lead the flypast

Guys check this out; go to 49:45..This video is from 1989 March 23 parade. ACM Hakimullah is on the dias rather than flying and leading the flypast and in doing so breaks a tradition in PAF...any thoughts on why he did this?

I think subsequent ACMs went back to the original tradition of leading the flypast but for some reason Hakimullah was the only one not doing this.

If anything, this parade does show how strongly Ghulam Ishaq Khan controlled the government at that time.

Could be that he may have not been maintained his flying currency status. Then again, it could be another reason. We have had air chiefs in the 1980s who flew F-16s from the front seat with a safety pilot in the rear seat and none of them were operational in F-16s. Our current air chief, despite being a F-16 pilot through most of his career, opts to fly in the back seat as GIBS rather than to pilot the aircraft from the front seat.
