AAD Test Fails "Missile falls down,catches fire immediately after its take off"

RISAT-2, or Radar Imaging Satellite 2 is an Indian radar reconnaissance satellite that is part of India's RISAT programme. It was built by the Israel Aerospace Industries and successfully launched aboard a PSLV-CA rocket at 01:15 GMT on April 20, 2009 from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

RISAT-2 is India's first heavy satellite with a synthetic aperture radar. It has a day-night, all-weather monitoring capability. Potential applications include tracking hostile ships at sea that could pose a military threat.though ISRO sought to underplay the satellite's defence applications in its announcements, a majority of the media classified it as a spy satellite.
CARTOSAT-2A.

The Cartosat 2A is a military version of the Cartosat 2 satellite launched by ISRO.

Cartosat 2A carries an advanced synthetic aperture radar (SAR) made by Israel and a digital camera with a resolution of less than one metre. The Cartosat 2A gives India the capability to monitor missile launches by rivals Pakistan and China, and also makes the country only the second Asian country after Japan to have this advanced capability.

The Cartosat-2A is officially billed as a reconnaissance satellite, but it caters exclusively to military and intelligence needs.


Time and space. In a nutshell, one scenario: ETOT 6 minutes from Pak launch base to Indian VA. Time to detect missile launch by AWACs and Cartosat 2A - 0 seconds as real time info will be provided. Data passed on to BMD CRs immediately, in real time, on secure networks and fed into computers. Missiles readied and launched. Time taken to intercept - 3 minutes while enemy missile is half way to target which means still over Pak territory.
1. Exactly which Indian satellite has the capability to detect a missile launch? (equivalent of US SBIRS/DPS satellites)
2. Exactly how can the present/planned Indian BMD (Phase-I/II) intercept missiles over Pakistani territory?

Actually CARTOSAT's and RISAT's are imaging reconnaissance satellite primarily meant for all weather imaging and surveillance purposes by NTRO not for our BMD programme.

India is using it's geosynchronous satellites for this purpose - the GSAT series - by arming them Electronic Intelligence System (ELINT) Packages to track electromagnetic emissions from geostationary orbits - GSAT 7 - India's first Military Satellite and the recently launched GSAT-16 are the best examples to come up with such sophisticated packages. The original GSAT series satellites are to be replace with these new ones with ELINT packages as soon as the original ones complete their respective life cycles.

The project is aimed at installing sensitive surveillance equipment along with other payload on the G-sats. They will capture the signature of any missile launch activities happening in a radius of 6,000 km.This signature will be transmitted to a central control unit which would initiate necessary counter-mechanism.

And as for the interception range - It depends on the range of the Swordfish AESA Long Range Tracking Radar which the DRDO is in the process of upgrading for Phase II purposes.

Bhubaneswar: India's ballistic missile interceptor failed on its tenth test on Monday, being unable to reach its target, a senior defence official said.

The indigenous Advanced Air Defence (AAD) interceptor missile was fired from Wheeler Island off the coast in Odisha's Bhadrak district, about 170 km from here, but plummeted into the Bay of Bengal seconds after lift-off.

"It took off as planned but did not reach the target. We are analysing the data," test range director MVKV Prasad told IANS.

Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the AAD missile is 7.5 metres tall and weighs around 1.2 tonnes.

The Monday test was against an electronic target to validate the missile capability. With the latest mission, the DRDO has tested the missile interceptor 10 times with eight of the tests being successful.

The missile had last failed to hit the target missile during a similar test from the same defence base on July 26, 2010.

Cool it dude. Even the high tech Americans have lost over 276 missiles in failed missile and rocket tests! Whereas your missiles have already been tested by North Korea and China before sending them to you in KDKs (knocked down kits) for you to assemble. :P :rofl: For example, the Nodong which the North Koreans shipped to you and which you guys re-christened as Ghauri saw a lot of failures before its operationalization in North Korea.
