Just returned from a trip to SE Asia.

While in Thailand a chance meeting with a travel agent whom we went to hire bikes from showed posters of the Death Railway and the Bridge on the River Kwai. I couldnt stop myself and took a day off to visit the place whose events were cronicled in an Academy award winning move by David lean.

Am sharing pictures of this place . Even after 69 years one feels a sense of awe and respect for the over 14000 POWS and over 80000 civilians who lost their lives in the construction of this railway.

The movie was filmed in Ceylon ( now Sri Lanka) .

Shall share more pics in a while.

The curved spans are the original spans used while constructing the bridge.

The two different spans are those used to replace those bombed during the war.
