At present, eight MiG-29 (six single-seat S and two dual-seat UB) are in service with the BAF's 8th Squadron.
Although a capable airframe, the BAF's Fulcrums do not possess a modern radar and avionics suite; an upgrade is not in the pipeline.
At this stage, the BAF is likely weighing its options for a new multi-role fighter platform. With Chengdu F-7s also in service, it might be prudent to look for a single and very capable platform to make up the fighter fleet in the future.
Given that Bangladesh's leading suppliers are Russia and China, the Mikoyan MiG-29M/M2 and Chengdu FC-20 may end up being on the cards. Granted, it may not be an easy acquisition, but it is one that is certainly needed, and soon.
