Wana, is the largest town of South Waziristan Agency in Pakistan's Federaliy Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)
Until recently, it was in the eye of a storm because of the embedded presence of of foreigners (Al-Qaeda) who had affiliated themselves with the Taliban-aligned forces. The Pakistan Armed forces had conducted many armed operations against these miscreants with Perhaps the town's most violent incident in the war on terror was the Battle of Wana which took place in March 2004 and included fighters from the Pakistan Army against Al-Qaeda and Taliban forces. More than 100 armed personnel were killed during the week of the fighting. Today after the sacrifices made by the Pakistan Army, life in Wana is prospering with people living with freedom without any fear and brutality they suffered under the Talibans.
