A short term solution to HIV/AIDS in India

WHn the article was written a few years ago, it was a crime to be gay in India. So when homosexuals get AIDS, they dont go to Doctors, because if the Doctor asks them how they got it, they get reported to the police and end up in jail. So they dont see a Doctor about their disease, and end up spreading it to more people who they have sexual relations with. After homosexuality has been decriminalized in India, this problem no longer occurs and they can get treatment instead of being scared of arrested for seeing a Doctor.

So you mean to say if infected get medical attention without of a fear of being ending up in jail and then allowed to carry on with business under the legal document would help halt spread of HIV among homos? Well, for that you should legislate for something that helps infected to seek the treatment and conciliation rather than declaring homosexuality legal.

P.S: I am not saying homosexuality must not be given a legal status, its your land you can legitimize anything I have no problem whatsoever. Instead my point is you just can't halt spread of HIV by just giving a legal status to homosexuality in fact this way you would be encouraging others to join the business and ultimately make it an industry, catamite brothels.

You don't need to have necessarily a legal order of legitimization of homosexuality in your hand to help the infected people.

Care to decipher?

@ topic: How does legitimization of homosexuality halt spread of HIV Aids?

When activities are illegal, the gov't is not educating people as to the correct ways of doing things safely. You can't outlaw sexuality, the people that are going to do it are going to do it. By outlawing it and pretending it doesn't exist, the problem just gets worse. The only way to stop the threat of AIDS (and other diseases) is to educate people on how to take safety measures to avoid infection.

HIV AIDS infections are getting reduced significantly in India...

Just like we won over polio we will win over HIV AIDS too..

a weak attempts by the homos - it doesnt have any impact on stoping aids or HIV..
Someone has failed basic medical knowledge in rising and shining india.
i do know u hate the "shining" india :pakistan: :smitten:but the rising india, definitely has some better medical knowledge ...... at least a lill more than some of our neighbours who seem to be more interested in afterlife , so they start up by blowing people in this life....

yet, i agree that overall (the old n the rising india together) medical knowledge is bad.....but cant be called pathetic.

about the topic in hand : bozo has got a point here.....a freak is a freak ... being a homo or hetero doesnt matter....

First of its not a situation that came along immediately after outlawing homosexuality, it is basically all about a concept which is fairly taboo. Secondly, people who are going to do it are going to do it anyway, they don't care whether it is outlawed or decriminalised. To spread awareness among people doesn't necessarily need legitimization of something. Making people aware of something and declaring something legal are two different things. Please refer to post # 16 for a gist.

BTW where is the reply to actual query I put before you?

Due to criminalization, govt had no way to know the prevalence, many of them suffered instead of seeking help.
Criminalization also increased the risky behaviour among homosexuals (the parallel being risky local booze when alcohol is banned in certain states)
Now, not only govt have fairly good data on areas to focus, it will also allow dedicated NGOs to work among them.

Creation of redlight district, and legalization in specific area, has led to successful fight against aids in Kolkata. A sex worker can openly seek help, NGOs can routinely visit without being harassed by police.
