Whatever happen to the middle ground? Pakistan is a Muslim majority country, so of course it will be influenced by the religion of it's majority, just like most other countries in the world. The problem arises when you have discriminatory laws and prejudice against minorities.
There is no reason why Pakistan cannot remain an Islamic Republic and still guarantee the rights of all its citizens. The problem is your mind, Islam is tolerant enough, we are not. We hate each other, becoming secular overnight won't change the ethnic, linguistics and religious tensions that exist. The problem is the state should be unbiased when it comes to these disputes. The responsibility of the state is not to judge who is the holier citizen, the responsibility of the state is to guarantee the rights of all its people and protection of property, life etc.
