National security is at stake if the economic might of India is corroded by a scam a day.

Gone are the days when the ministers in UPA were claiming to build 20 KMs of road a day. Today we see a situation when a day does not come to an end without hearing of scams that add up to numbers that are mind boggling. Opposition too has no moral high ground after the show it has put up in states like Karnataka. The opposition is divided with infighting and the UPA is corrupt to the core. Corruption has tarnished the highest echelons of power including the president and prime minister of India.
Politicians around the world are corrupt and no political party is free of corruption. But the way the current government has gone on with its business leaves me wondering if India is headed for disaster. This thread is for all to introspect and choices the public of India has when it votes in 2014.

I'll have maoist rule delhi any day than these chor politicians.

Yeah this has become a routine and usually when I switch to Indian news channels I get updated scam reports daily; why scamming has become a trend in India?
Without corruption, these govt. officials and middle class can't send their chldren to best schools and colleges as their fees is too high, inflation is on the rise, even basic amenities are not available creating more competition, supply don't meet the demand, and sheer will to get more money then their neighbour. It s part of our society. And the off spring of this society became our leaders and there you go, scams after scam.

Corruption has become necessary for survival for majority of the people but we Indians don;t see it that way. Indians fail to acknowledge that this corruption is the deep current of our economy, no matter how bad they affect our economy, it is the reason of rise in engineers and new leaders, entrepreneurs who got their degrees and education due to corruption of their parents.

Most people are corrupt in India, but people like to blame politicians for everything.
Scamming was always 'in' thing, only now they are being unearthed regularly.
However not all 'scams' that media talk about is scam, some are just allegations.

Typical calculations! if that goes on the poor has no luck for his/her grand children's good future in India - that should be tackled I remember last time visiting India a taxi driver was quite happy of a bill which could lead to significant decrease in corruption, was there any bill and is that passed by the parliament?

All parties are corrupt so its far from becoming a reality. But poor are having some luck, thanks to few NGOs and development schemes especially in few states.

But the number of people getting the benefit is too small. It will take us another 4 decades to get thing according to normal living condition.

But there is another side of the story. These poor people especially farmers are happy with what they have. And they try their best to send atleast one child to school. The government has done few good things but alas, due to corruption, everything is going in vain, or in bureaucrats pockets.

You cannot stop corruption by passing a bill, it was a fantacy. No the bill was not passed because of politics (as well as genuine concern about abuse of power).

They made a mistake, they get too stubborn to bring PM and other high officials to come under Lokpal. If they have first settled to check low tier officials, they could have made significant change. The money flows from downwards to upwards in most of the departments.

Just imagine, each and every district and state level bureaucrat under Lokpal, would have affected the entire structure slowly.

We think of 2g scam, black money, coal fraud,.....if you stop corruption at grass root level, those politician won't come in between as they won't be indicted and with money saved at every govt. entity or projects combined would have been more than these big scams.

What we have now is, we didn't get the big scam money and we can't stop low level corruption.

That was the major flaw, Team Anna got too much emotional.

Lokpal can not work if you include every state employee under its jurisdiction. The number of cases will be so high that they wont be able to effectively function.

Lokpal should have been only for corruption at highest places, there are existing anti corruption laws but it was insufficient/slow for powerful people.

If you create a lokpal for everything, it will have a workforce of size of Indian railway. The corruption within the lokpal will be massive. You will need a lok-lokpal then. :)

Most important is the change in process that effectively make corruption difficult.

Indians are a hypocritical bunch when it comes to dealing with corruption. They raise huge hue and cry over some big scams but have no qualms in giving bribe to speeding up his file in some Govt office, bcs he can't wait or bribe some constable bcs he is not wearing helmet, bribe the building inspector to overlook the discrepancies in building & approved plan etc etc.

Initially , it wil be hard and it will slow down work and activity but this is what we need to do NOW in order to prepare for the future. India going the way it is, is destined to fail if it does not correct its situation.
