As you all know, we recently saw a photo of a J-10B undergoing tests with a radar. The radar has been debated, with some saying AESA and some saying PESA.

However, consider this.

Could it be possible that the J-10B seen under testing was the FC-20 specifically built for Pakistan?

Some rationale:

1. The J-10B is supposed to carry J-20 style avionics; this means that there is no reason for it to switch back. Huitong and other commentators continue to stick with the AESA label.

2. The wings seen on the test J-10B seemed to be slightly modified, which is consistent to current descriptions of the Pakistani FC-20.

3. The J-10B seen has access panels opened and is in yellow primer; this is inconsistent with the other J-10Bs (which are all in PLAAF grey). This implies that a new variant is in testing.

4. If it is testing PESA (although unlikely), it could simply be Pakistan's request for PESA instead of AESA.

Input would be appreciated.

You mean PESA is used as a cost reduction measure for export?

why would pakistan want Pesa instead of Aesa? Can anybody Elobrate this ....

Could simply be a budget conservation measure. Or perhaps they feel they do not urgently need AESA.

fc-20's expected to Be Paf High tech Fighter's, no Compromise , and i think pakistan getting fc-20 on soft loan, arn't they?

.
Some other member, I think it was TaimiKhan said that Pakistan has not confirmed any orders of FC-20/J-10 but has just indicated that it is interested in the J-10.

All this talk about FC-20 being upgraded, and having AESA/PESA.....is there anything to definitively substantiate this???.....or is this all just speculation??

Will China really be willing to offer Pakistan a fighter that they themselves don't have yet??

Well if they want an AESA in JFT....Why would they settle for a PESA on FC-20........Logic.

When did JFT get a AESA radar... the AESA would be more expensive than the Aircraft..

Here we go, the news for you;

Pakistan and China have recently concluded a final agreement for the manufacture of a second batch of JF-17s. According to well-vetted sources from Pakdef (Eagle Hannan), these 50 jets are the final form of the JF-17s. The aircraft will be manufactured at Kamra, Pakistan, but will be flown to China for additional work. This work is said to relate to a new generation of avionics and sensor suite.

The Block II JF-17 is believed to have AESA radars similar to those observed on the J-10B. The integrated avionics, sensors and EW suite is entirely Chinese and is believed to be at the level of Europes best planes. The AESA radar is a slightly smaller version of the one being utilized for the J-10B. The radar is highly sophisticated and its installation is beyond the present capacity at PAC Kamra and will thus require the aircraft to take a trip to Nanjing, China.
