Two unknown planets have been detected in our solar system. Scientists think that there could be at least two unknown planets beyond Pluto in our solar system. This discovery led Astronomers to suggest that there are probably more planets yet to be found in a little-studied area known as the 'inner Oort cloud'.
This discovery led Astronomers to suggest that there are probably more planets yet to be found in a little-studied area known as the 'inner Oort cloud'. It is reported that if this discovery is confirmed to be true, the new observation could change our view of the solar system forever.
This results was based on the findings that come from observations of space rocks beyond Neptune that orbit at angles that don't make sense unless there is something else there. The study was carried out by scientists from Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Cambridge.
The astronomers found that at least a dozen objects beyond Neptune have different and unusual orbits, hinting at unseen objects pulling them towards each other.
"This excess of objects with unexpected orbital parameters makes us believe that some invisible forces are altering the distribution of the orbital elements of the ETNO and we consider that the most probable explanation is that other unknown planets exist beyond Neptune and Pluto," the report quoted Carlos de la Fuente Marcos, scientist at the UCM and co-author of the study, as saying.
These potential worlds would probably be bigger than Earth and would be located nearly 200 astronomical units from the sun. Our Earth is one astronomical unit from the sun.
These new results may provide evidence about Planet X, which is a rumored object, 250 astronomical units from the sun and 10 times larger than Earth. In recent decades, Planet X has largely been rejected by almost all astronomers.
Since the discovery of Neptune in the late 19th Century, some astronomers have suggested another planet could exist even further from the Sun. however, planet X was largely relegated to the realms of science fiction and conspiracy theories.
