Should have never demobilised the military. The govt created the mess in the first place, it is their responsibility to stay in and fix it. Screw the "peace deal".

We have the genious Zia to thank for forcibly settling Bengalis in CHT without any proper plan or structure.
I understand that CHT is our land we should be able to settle anywhere including CHT but this could have been done in a systematic manner instead of showing a giant middle finger to the tribal minorities.

The problem is much older. The grievances started with the construction of Kaptai dam in the 60s that displaced thousands of tribals. After independence, the tribals pledged their allegiance to Bangladesh but demanded recognition of their ethnic and cultural identity, to which Sheikh Mujib responded by telling them to become Bengalis. The decision to settle Bengalis in the region was also taken by the Mujib government itself while Zia implemented it later on.

Unfortunately it looks that the birth of Bangladesh was started as another oppressor towards minority speakers! Asking them to become Bengali is purely discrimination,no doubt.

Why any non Bengali speaker will be bengali I have no idea. Is it not worse than the sentence, "Urdu will be the only state language aka lingua franca of Pakistan!" ?

Perhaps the respons was worse, as urdu was proposed as lingua franca of Pakistan while it was a language of minority called Muhajirs.

On the other hand Bengali and punjabi were two language of major speakers. And later we solved the issue in 1952!

But while in Bangladesh 98% people speak in Bengali, then there is no reason to ask the triabals to become Bengali. It was clearly the tyranny of the majority! Truly disastrous! They have the right to speak in their own language.

Finally we all are Bangladeshi; both majority Bengali speaker and minority tribal! Bangladeshi should be our true identity!
