I agree with most things you say. Just wish to point out that Syria was not an underdeveloped country.

I used that word for the lack of a better term...or maybe a term exists and I just can't think of it at the moment.

It's not how the countries started out as...they may very well have been developed countries before the unrest/civil wars/destabilization occurred. It's what they became after. Before Syria and Iraq became destabilized...there was no ISIS...same story for Libya. With years of war/civil war in countries like Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya...it reduces economic opportunities for ppl...puts their financial ability at risk, which can make them more prone to turning to crime, violence, etc.
