This video gives out a guud message for our people, but the point to be noted in the video is the guts that PTV has shown to indicate the private media channels to quit BSing about everything (inflating the bomb blasts, showing distress and pain etc etc), though they have mended their ways as for now, but still PTV gives a very clear and bold bottom line to these channels and this is something new.

Its PTV who has to be blamed for not showing the reality of the situation in East Pakistan. they kept on saying that everything is under control and there is nothing to be worried about. People of East Pakistan are with Pakistan. If it the other way around people of West paksiatn would have come to the streets for the grief of East Pakistan and Pakistan would not have been broken into parts. Its good to show the reality to the people. It will prevent Pakistan from such incidents.

Are you with the video or against it, by the way?

In my humble opinion, People should know what is happening around them.Even if its painful...even if its frustrating..they should know everything!
its time to wake up.we can't turn a blind eye on our problems.you know...like a pigeon..who just shuts its eyes and assumes the cat is gone while its still there.

Well if someone remember about Hamid Mir's reaction when during his program someone 'compared' Geo with PTV and Mr Mir just blasted and said 'khuda ka khof karay hamay PTV k sath to compare karain, hum bahut gay hain unsay'. (although it was a program on Geo's birthday, and Mr Mir himself asked about Geo's performance).

We all know that all the private channels are ahead of PTV by all means but 'insulting' the national TV so blatantly doesn't speaks guud of Geo, an we also know that PTV never had the enough mouth to speak against these channels, even if they were just spewing BS, but we can see that PTV has been different lately.

Yes we should encourged brotherhood but not at the cost of hidding everthing from people. PTV hide most of the news we previously used to rely on Indian and international channels for news related to pakistan because PTV hide everthing and shows a biased perspective of everything. Show the reality not the biased perception. It will encourage brotherhood and trust among people. PTV should try to remain on Neutral grounds for a better and prosperous Pakistan. If someone is not doing good show it rather than hidding it. PTV previously i remember used to be a war zone for different political parties. When one comes in Power PTV start showing negatives about the previous Govts. and when another get the power PTV starts showing the other negative. I mean what is this...? People do not want to watch this. they just want to know the truth.

No matter what we say but still PTV is better than these sold tv channels. we cant afford this BS from the private channels in the name of liberal news.

Mr. hallbrook specifically mentioned about GEO in his recent press conference that GEO is promoting negative snetiments about USA. Well what a game plan By USA.

This is all been said just to make GEO more popular with a false perception. By the way GEO's new name is Afra tafri channel.

You are absolutely right on this. it must e understood that any/all private media channels got to have some agenda or else they cant survive. They have to side with one or the other, though any national TV may also be biased but atleast they dont talk about th state, atleast they dont spit from where they eat, but for these private channels, especially the channels that e have today dont give a shyt about the country's repo, i am still wondering what exactly made these channels pro-war against the terrorists?

I don't think showing headless bodies and other gory scenes, and watching cameramen fight like dogs to get an angle over bomb blasts justifies what your saying.

Agreed. The media's responsibility is to ensure, as much as possible, that both sides of the coin are visible. I know that many here would rather watch Cobra helicopters bomb buildings than fundraising shows for the IDPs, but the IDPs need us more than the Army does. Also, supporting the operation does not mean you ignore the human cost. Even before the recent operations, the media was blasted for being "anti-government" or "anti-Army", well, sorry, they were doing their jobs. I agree that Geo can get out of hands sometimes, but then that balances out the white lies spilled by politicians and national media.

I'm sorry, I do not want to silence anyone and everyone who I disagree with. Call me a traitor.

That is the other extreme. There is no justification for that, and I support your opinion, but that does not give us the right to close our eyes.

Well i dont say if you are right or otherwise, but my concern is that if our media is actually so devout and they 'just' do their job, then why other so many issues are left unattended by them? Why only those issues which would make them money and make stuff more sensational are shown. Why none of them has gone to interior Balochistan and has shown their misery, why they havent tried to get hold of those who did wrong to them. It is easy to show a person who was tied to his leg for years in Arifwala and a X woman got married with a Y man and then they were killed, but it is difficult to show people what went wrong, it is easy to show that the talibans were blowing up schools but difficult to show that they are monsters, it is easy to show a suicidal attack where upon Mr xyz who was the only earner of a family died, but difficult to show that 'very very little' something that the govt would do for them. Why it was difficult for them to show that construction of Dams were the need of time and easy to show other related BS? Just following what the people demand and sensationalizing it would not make them heroes, if your kid asks something wrong would you just blindly provide it to them? No i guess, though still many would turn a blind eye to them. So the point is that if the 'holy' people demand that they all tomorrow should be given free of admission in any colleges that they want, so should the media project them as such. i am referring towards the recent development after the 15 building attack when the police took some strict measure and some entries were restricted and roads made out of bound, and as a response our people just became bewildered! They just forgot about the deaths from the blast. They were accusing the police of everything and one even said that dont make this Swat, now come on, do you think the police was doing it for fun? Do you think the Americans like it when they have to take off their shoes at the airport? But it is for their own safety. So it has to be done, now if Mr Doodhwala is bothered because of some security measures (though it might be costing him and his poor family one time meal) so is it important to secure some place and try preventing another attack and save 100s of lives or is it Ok to let the poor re-tailer pass from there?

You decide and tell us wouldnt it be better for the media to show that it is for the betterment of the people that stringent measure are being taken rather then making a mockery out of every step that ANY govt or govt institution takes!?

That's what i am against nothing else, giving out the truth and doing the fringing job also means to balance out the things rather than getting the fun and money out of it!!

Anyone remembers Allama Hassan Turabi's assassination and how Geo TV for four hours ran footage of the suicide bomber's severed head and other body parts :disagree: It was sickening.

Yup there is a lot of sensationalism --- there's a r-a-t-race actually. We have nine or so mainstream news channels so they need to have "breaking news" and "exclusives" to capture the limited urban and suburban audience.... less professionalism and poor work ethics, not to say social responsibility.

As far as presenting facts the way they are without being sensational is concerned, I like Dawn and Dawn News. More often than not really late in breaking news but at least they confirm what they report and there is much less gibberish. They are conservative and cautious in their opinions/editorials, but you have to take their criticism seriously when it is dispensed. Avoid Rauf Klasra, Ansar Abbasi, Hamid Mir type of journalism.... they have set the precedent for sensationalism.

I like Dawn and Dawn News

 yes nadia ji i think i had mentioned it earlier osmewhere that DAWN is good when it comes to showing HORTI CULTURE in pakistan...& how to grow TULIPS & LILLIES

however, it is true dawn is the lesser evil because all the other channels want to INCREASE TRP ratings!! specially our very own GEO!!!

like i said before our MEDIA is not AZAAD it is AWARAA....they don't know where to draw the line and they are always showing negative things that demoralize the common man of pakistan!!! so i guess DAWN wins for just being a bit more less SENSATIONAL even though it appeals more to the HIGH society and less to the COMMON pakistani who cannot speak english and for him HORTI culture is just PHUUL PODAYYY

GEO is there just to get ratings. It just does not matter for them if Pakistan break ups. They will just start transmission in newly formed independent states.

hahahah what a comment - media is not AZZAD its AAwara- lol

I agree media is all propaganda and business oriented but in between all this money making biz they sometime do us a few good , by providing the shiver to the corrupt people. We can not say all media is good or all media is bad. like in united states i like channel 9 news, rest cnn and fox were too much entertainment.

The story is nto just of pakistan but whole world, its happening everywhere. try grabbing some - indian channels like INDIA tv- they always talk about ghost and spirits and taliban.
-------------

Nadia just said it precisely - 9 news channel need to make money - they will do anything to make a breaking news. they will make a fetus an alien or make Taliban coming from India.
but the thing is - you got the remote control of your television channel.
