BYD today unveiled the DM-i Super Hybrid Destroyer 05, the first sedan in its Ocean series, at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

It adopts the latest marine aesthetic design concept and BYD's new logo, and is the second BYD model to adopt the new logo after the Dolphin.


The car has a length, width and height of 4,780/1,837/1,495mm respectively and a wheelbase of 2,718mm.

It is equipped with BYD DM-i Super Hybrid system with Snapdragon 1.5L engine, EHS system, and dedicated blade battery.

It has a peak power of 81 kW, a peak torque of 135 Nm and a thermal efficiency of 43.04 percent.

The model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as fast as 7.3 seconds and consumes 3.8 liters per 100 km at the lowest charge.

The model is available with a choice of 55km and 120km of pure electric range, the latter of which also supports 25kW fast charging, taking only 25 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent.


BYD has not yet announced the official launch date and price of the Destroyer 05. Previously, it was reported that its price range is RMB 120,000 - 150,000 yuan.

With the launch of the Destroyer 05, BYD will also divide its former automotive business into two business units - Wang Chao Business Unit and Ocean Network Business Unit.

The Ocean Network replaces the former e-Network, and models will be displayed and sold in 4S stores, shopping malls and city showrooms.

The Ocean Network consists of two product series, the pure electric products based on the e platform 3.0 named after marine creatures, and the hybrid product series with DM-i super hybrid technology named after warships.

In the Warship series, the sedan will be named the "Destroyer" series, the SUV models will be the "Cruiser" series, and the MPV models will be the "Landing Ship" series.

We’ve obtained spy shots of the upcoming BYD Han DM-i PHEV!
Plug-in hybrids are popular in China these days, allowing drivers both cheap EV commutes and road trips without range anxiety. Seeing the demand for PHEVs, BYD has been refining its DM-i system to reach impressive efficiency.
Seen in near-naked form, the Han DM-i is slightly different from the MIIT photos. In the MIIT photos, the DM-i rear lights are identical to the EV version; On the spied prototype, the rear light bar is cleaner- similar to the Aion S and many other Chinese sedans. Usually what we see in the MIIT catalog is final, so it’s interesting to see design changes so close to production.

Apart from the rear, the rest of the design is in line with the catalog. To allow the 1.5T engine to breathe, BYD gave the DM-i a large grille up front; tis’ the age of large intakes even for tiny engines, so BYD is following the trend. The rest the design is very similar to the BYD Han EV: some stronger lines but with good overall flow.

Now for the part that caught our attention: under hybrid mode, fuel consumption is as low as 0.8L/100km (294mpg)! That’s an extremely impressive number for any car, let alone a big sedan like the Han DM-i. Powered by a 102kW 1.5T engine and a 145kW electric motor, expect a full range of 1,000km or more. Although we don’t know the battery capacity, we know that BYD will use its Blade batteries on this vehicle; we expect at least two battery capacities, given two range figures (0.8L/100km, 1.4L/100km).
Pricing of the Han DM-i is expected to be lower than its EV cousin, which costs 220,000-280,000 RMB (34,500-44,000USD). Given the lower pricing, minimal fuel consumption and lack of range anxiety- the BYD Han DM-i seems to be the best of both worlds!

Baidu CEO says JiDU's first robot car will be delivered in 2023

Baidu's car-building unit JiDU Auto will unveil its first concept robot car in the first half of 2022, with mass production and delivery in 2023, the Chinese search engine giant said today.
Baidu today hosted Baidu Create, its annual flagship developer conference and the first metaverse conference in China, through its metaverse platform XiRang. Robin Li, the company's founder, chairman and CEO, revealed the plans at the event.

"Robot car is our judgment of the future of automotive development," Li said, adding, "I am confident in JiDU's future and very excited about JiDU's robot car."
In March 2021, Baidu established JiDU, an independent intelligent electric vehicle (EV) making company, which is building robot cars with three product concepts. According to Li, the three concepts are:
Robot car with L4 self-driving capability, so that it can "move freely".
Human-vehicle interaction and precise recognition of voice semantics, so that the car and people can "communicate naturally". This means that the car can interact with people face to face like friends. It understands your emotions, responds to your needs in real-time, and is an attentive intelligent partner.
The robot car can self-learn and iterate, and can "self-grow". It will continue to learn the user's use and interaction habits, based on behavioral data, and constantly optimize the experience of self-driving and intelligent cockpit.
JiDU is brewing a long-term change in the way we travel by creating revolutionary robot cars with emotion and intelligence, Li said, adding that the company is reinventing the human-machine relationship with an immersive, reassuring and empathetic experience.
On January 11, Baidu announced its entry into the car-making industry as an automaker by forming an EV company with Geely.

JiDU was officially launched on March 2 and will be based on Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, supporting the car company with artificial intelligence, Apollo autonomous driving, Xiaodu voice assistant, and Baidu Maps.
At the end of April, JiDU CEO Xia Yiping said the company's products are planned in a "series", with a new car launched every 1-1.5 years. "Based on this speed and investment, the expected investment in the next five years is RMB 50 billion."
Design of the company's cars has been underway since February, and the first EV will be unveiled at next year's Beijing Auto Show, Xia said.
The model then will be a concept production car that is about 90 percent close in appearance to the production car. Optimistically, reservations could be made within the next year, he said.
At today's Baidu Create conference, in addition to announcing JiDU's product plans, Li also mentioned again his vision for the future of transportation.
Intelligent transportation will be a major change that will affect the next 10-40 years, which can make the first-tier cities in China no longer need to impose purchase and traffic restrictions on cars within 5 years, and basically solve the congestion problem within 10 years, he said.

Li believes that intelligent transportation can reduce road safety accidents by 90 percent and can systematically solve the congestion problem, and that autonomous driving and intelligent transportation can help reduce carbon emissions.
In the area of self-driving mobility services, Baidu Apollo Go provided 115,000 services in the past quarter, making it the world's largest self-driving mobility service provider, according to Li.
Apollo Go will expand its service coverage to 65 cities by 2025 and to 100 cities by 2030, Li said.
