A flood of ultra-cheap Netbooks & Tablets hits Pakistan

Pakistan is awash in ultra-inexpensive Laptops, Netbooks and Tablets of every form factor. Being on a number of local distributors’ mailing lists, we are inundated with ads pitching the form factor du jour, at rapidly decreasing prices. Here is one example:

Not only that I was able to get an almost new HP pavilion laptop from Galaxy at 27K. The only downside is the anti-theft stickers on the lid other than that its totally untouched and unscratched. The sellers tells it was from US Gov surplus stock liquidation. Same laptop in KSA costs me 3500SAR!

I like the mini laptop E700... It comes "without virus break-ins"

I've actually tried out the Android tablet... not bad. There are a ton of educational applications for these.

WAQAS119, did you see the "Made in Pakistan" thread where I posted information about the Sirius handheld embedded computer designed and built from scratch in Pakistan (2004)?

Depends on what you are willing to pay for.

As you know, the iPhone and pretty much every other top-end consumer electronics device is manufactured in China. So the issue is not Chinese quality, but the depth of the buyer's pockets.

I am not talking about the branded stuff. all the copied chinese gadgets.

I used to import Chinese mobile phone to UK 3 years ago. I noticed if you buy one chinese phone from China for like 5000 Pakistani rupees. After its delivered to UK that would be around 10,000 Pakistani rupees (delivery + custom charges etc). But if you buy same Chinese phone from Pakistan the price would either remain 5000 rupees or maximum you will get it for 4900 - 5100 rupees.

Trust me buying Chinese products in Pakistan is like buying Chinese products from China. You will not get same price in India i know cause I used to research about cheapest phones from all over the world and the prices in India were not competitive when it comes to mobile phones (not talking about other devices)

Like it or not, much of the world's manufacturing is now done in China. Be it the Apple IPhone or its clones, all are manufactured in China. The price differential comes from two sources. The marketing done by parent company, ie, Apple, and the assurance of quality that comes with brand value.

China has products for all kinds of depth of buyer's pocket. The quality depends on what you can afford.

that true..thats why I said its the shipping charges and taxes (lots of the time they even use courries for small orders of small items like memory card stuff, o avoid custom charges for the buyers), whihc increases the price.or else these products would be even lowerthan what you get.

actually in India..the price is same as in Pakistan for chinese products (of course according the value of Indian and pakistani rupees), may be in India the importers pay a little more for the shipping butthat again, they do it in huge and bulky orders, which makes up for the shipping..so at in the end....a product worth 5000 Pakistani rs. in china you get it for 5000 only in pakistan, and in India you get it for say 5100 Pakistani rs.
