A district in Turkey named after Indian freedom fighter

i will answer in slightly similar terms to what @Juggernautjatt said in post# 26.

these "freedom fighters" really have long abandoned the kashmir cause and have turned into reactionaries no different than qaeda or taliban or ikhwaan ( mb )... they have not presented any solution which will bring lasting peace to south asia... they have not even looked at muammar gaddafi's solution which, i must emphasize, was reiterated in the uno general assembly in 2009 and immediately celebrated by kashmiri civilians.

google for aasyia andrabi... should she be the model for kashmiri ladies, let alone any lady??

please watch this film, "harud", made by a kashmiri and speaking of the dilemma of kashmiris... the film is quite neutral on the background politics...

(((
)))
all kashmiri fighters turned into taliban/aq?
I have not seen any report of that happening, besides Indian govt used to term them as militants or extremists. Now even maoists are called terrorists.
The broad point is, you can term anybody terrorist just because they are violently oppsed to you.

.
wonderful.. i didn't know of this.

while revolutionaries from other cultures ( like lenin, che guevara ) have had roads and other artifacts named after them, it has been rare for south asian revolutionaries... this is a proud moment, but it is also saddening that this fact was not known for so long.

@levina @jbgt90 @The_Showstopper @takeiteasy @hinduguy @WAJsal
@Color_Less_Sky @IrbiS @Spring Onion

salute !!!

a hero often unsung but he was brought to prominence in the film "rang de basanti".

it must be indeed rare for a socialist and the deoband mullah school to collaborate.

wow... the "ghadar party" revolutionaries had global reach.
Do you know how many tee shirts and stickers of che guevara i have seen in Andhra? doubt most even know who he was.:)

you are right, not all fighters turned into taliban and aq... for many, it simply opposition to indian army.

and you are right about the change in terminology.

but now, the general stream of visible leadership doesn't seem to project kashmir itself as cause but more a narrow sectarian cause... i am talking about people like syed ali shah geelani... these and the militant leaderships are not like socialism-based other insurrection groups like farc and eta.

it is true that if kashmir issue must be resolved, the reactionaries on all sides must be side-lined or reform.

The broad point is, you can term anybody terrorist just because they are violently oppsed to you.

indeed... that is why i was careful to name aasiya andrabi as someone who legitimizes reactionary militancy rather than broad-brush every militant as terrorist.

che guevara has indeed helped many a capitalist make a tidy sum.

also, you are right that most youngsters now won't know about him.

:) his clan is alive they can decide for their nationality.

As a matter of fact if we try to fix nationality for them on basis of migration then Raj Kapoor since migrated to India from Pakistan and adopted Indian nationality hence he is an Indian of Pakistani origin :D

While Abdur Rehman Peshawari migrated to Turkey for defending Muslim empire :) hence he at maximum can be called a Turkish of Pakistani origin but not an Indian :azn:

Kashmiri freedom fighters are also fighting for freedom of Kashmir from India
Kashmiri freedom struggle died a long time ago. Even the issue of terrorism is not there any more, only some sporadic incidents keep happening. They are mainly Punjabis from Pakistan. It is a case of Pakistan trying to create trouble in Kashmir because they want to annex Kashmir and hence not the same case as that of Indian Freedom struggle.

He was from Peshawar,everyone knows who he was but in those days there was no Pakistan,it was called India.

British India and he was British Indian - Thats different from India and Indian ! The only reason we point that out is because these modern day Indians have a tendency of appropriating the history of British India and whatever existed here before that as if the modern day country of India = British India/Indian Subcontinent/Ancient Indic Civilizations.

It is precisely because of that reason we prefer to use the term 'South Asian' instead of Indian or British Indian to refer to historical places, personalities and civilizations that inhabited South Asia; so that all South Asians - Pakistanis, Indians, Bangladeshis, Nepalis, Sri Lankans etc. get a share in its ownership and it isn't arrogantly appropriated by one country and one country alone.

It was British dominion of India, but was called India only. The prominent historians of the time have also used to the same name, no exception to this.

British India is what it was called just as British Columbia !

:lol: well you are free to call Musharraf as an India :P it is more interesting to know that an Indian did Kargil against India.

anyway there was NO India before 1947. It was just a region with many states governed by many Kings/Rulers .

Abdur Rehman Peshawari was a Pakistani. Period.
