RAIPUR: At least 50 CRPF personnel were killed in an attack by Naxalites in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh early on Tuesday.

The attack took place when a CRPF patrol party was returning from a road opening duty in the naxalite-infested Mukrana forest in the district between 6 to 7 am.

"We have rushed helicopters to evacuate the casualties," Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Viswa Ranjan told PTI.

The death toll in the attack may rise as many of the personnel have been seriously injured.

The CRPF patrol party was totally taken aback by the Maoists who surfaced at a hillock to carry out the attack.

Dantewada Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra told PTI that the Naxals blew up a vehicle carrying the CRPF personnel.

The incident took place in the early hours near Chintalnar -Tarmetla village in the district when ultras attacked a joint team comprising personnel from CRPF, district forces and special police, he said.

The team had been camping in interiors of Tarmetla jungles for the last three days as part of a combing operation, Mishra said.

Four policemen have been injured in the blast. Additional police forces have been rushed to the spot, he said.

The landmine had exploded in Tanginiguda area when a van carrying jawans of the elite anti-Naxalite Special Operation Group (SOG) was returning from an operation in adjacent Malkangiri district.

The attack came two days after Maoists triggered a landmine blast killing 11 security personnel and injuring several others in Orissa's Koraput district.

Chhattisgarh's mineral rich Bastar region spread out in about 40,000 sq km is made up of five districts - Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, Bastar and Dantewada.

THIS SNEAKY FELLOW CHIDAMBARAM IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTINUED DEATHS OF OUR SOLDIERS IN CRPF AND POLICE.HE HAS LED TO 100'S OF PARAMILITARY PERSONNEL BEING KILLED.AFTER EVERY INCIDENT HE COMES OUT TO SHED CROCODILE TEARS ON TV.
ARE THE LIVES OF MAOISTS MORE VALUABLE THAN THE SECURITY PERSONNEL ON DUTY? WHY IS HE NOT LETTING THE ARMY TO ENGAGE THE MAOISTS IN DIRECT COMBAT AND ERADICATE THE MENACE IN 30 DAYS.IT WOULD ALSO BE GOOD JUNGLE WARFARE TRAINING FOR OUR ARMY.SHAME ON CHIDDU.:hang2:

Enough is enough.....why dont we use air power? No need to bring in Army, just bring in Air Force.we can test LCH there.

Congress is hands in glove with these maggots Leftists, as they did with Khalistanis etc! If u observe where ever there is Congress Govt. Naxalism vanishes and props up in non-Congress state (e.g Andhra Pradesh now has no maoist prob, but during TDP rule, even Chandrababu Naidu was attacked)on the contrary, West Bengal with leftist Govt. is having major Maoist problem may sound credulous but Congress can with its dirty department can do anything! Its been history of Congress to use insurgents to their gain!

Its important that Army and Air Force is called in and use Carpet Bombing to kill all Junglee Maoists their supporters and family members!

Above hang all Fake Corrupt Human Rights such as miss Hypocrite arnudhati roy, javed akhtar, mahesh bhatt et al activists all gang of traitors!

Its high time we withdraw police and other para-military forces which are ill-equipped and call in army. Its been long, this Chidambram Guy is corrupt and will shed crocodile tears, as he is busy minting money and taking services from chines agent Maoists!:sniper:

Maoist rebels killed 55 paramilitary policemen in the jungles of central India on Tuesday when they ambushed a patrol in one of the biggest attacks by the left-wing insurgents, police said.

A group from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was attacked at dawn in the state of Chhattisgarh and when reinforcements rushed to the scene they were surrounded by hundreds of Maoists, police said.

In a hail of automatic gunfire and landmine explosions, 55 troopers were killed and a heavily armoured anti-mine vehicle sent in to retrieve the wounded was blown up, police and security sources told AFP.

"There are 55 CRPF personnel confirmed killed in the Naxal (Maoist) attack," head of the local administration in the Dantewada district, Reena Saheb Baba Kangale, told AFP by telephone.

"A hundred security personnel had gone to the jungles for operations and we cannot confirm the exact casualty figure," a local source in the security forces told AFP in Raipur, 650 kilometres (400 miles) south of Dantewada.

The Maoists have stepped up attacks in response to a government offensive that began late last year to hunt down Maoists entrenched in the forests of the so-called "Red Corridor" that stretches across north and eastern India.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram said the attack showed the "savage nature" of the Maoists and regretted the loss of life.

He has repeatedly said he is ready for talks with the rebels on condition they renounce violence. Maoist leaders have said they will only talk once the offensive against them ends.

Chidambaram hardened his rhetoric at the weekend after 10 policemen were killed in a landmine attack in eastern Orissa state, calling the rebels "cowards".

On Monday, he said Naxalism, as the Maoist movement is known in India, was the "first enemy" of the country.

Don't talk out of your arse! Naxalites are a HOME-GROWN GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT STARTED IN THE 1960s. These people who live in REMOTE jungle and forest, barely have contact with mainstream Indian society --- nor can they speak any non-Indian language --- nor do they have any contact whatsoever with any foreigner (much less Chinese, as Mandarin is a particular difficult language to learn) ---> SO DON'T MAKE STUPID ACCUSATIONS.

Get your head out of all that RSS/BJP Fanatical Hindu Propaganda.

You want to solve the problem, then eliminate the source. :sniper:The source of these movements is DOMESTIC CORRUPTION, EVIL PERSECUTION OF POOR/TRIBALS/MINORITIES, the CASTE SYSTEM, etc.
